My GTI now sounds like the Titanic.

Yes, this is a bit of a repeat of the numerous threads on here but so I didn't hi-jack other peoples threads I thought I would start my own.

Ever since my car has come back from the dealer it's creaking, clonking, and banging more than a 20 year old Vectra with destroyed shock absorbers. What is going on!?

So a few tests.

1) Drive one side of your car up a flat kerb and keep going so one side of your car is higher than the other. As soon as the pavement raises on the driver side it makes the passenger side suspension creak like i'm on a maiden voyage with Christopher Columbus. This creak continues if you move the car while one side is up on the pavement.

2) Drive down a bumpy road. Front driver side makes a knocking sound which doesn't sound healthy. The rear suspension seems pretty silent. Each little pot hole/bump in the road makes a little sound. I'm going to record the sound so you guys can hear it. This is really frustrating because the sound is so hard to explain.

3) Put the car in reverse and back up slowly (up-hill), my rear brakes or something occasionally make an awful screeching sound.

4) Clunks when moving the steering wheel from clockwise full lock to anti clockwise full lock and visa versa at low speeds when doing reverse parallel parking. (Again this is up-hill, not sure if it makes a difference.)

5) Buzz originally thought to be coming from the passenger door/dash is actually coming from the sunroof, I think. Very intermittent but very noticeable when it starts.

Now apologies but this is the first time i've ever bought a brand new car and so I don't know if this is normal but I wouldn't imagine it to be as my old MK5 with 60,000 on the clock wasn't making any of these sounds? It's driving me so crazy that I'm going to go to a VW dealer and ask to test-drive another GTI to see if it's the same.

The problem is that it's really hard to demonstrate to the dealer because they are intermittent and only on certain road surfaces. Speed Bumps seem okay, 90% of the time. But it's easy to miss the sound on them opposed to a bumpy road where it's constantly pinging every 3-4 seconds.

This is getting me so depressed every time I get in my shiny new GTI to have to turn up the radio to drown out the various sounds of mechanical parts breaking.

Anyone else have any of these problems? I've already had my "gaiters repositioned" and it's better but still the same problem is there just to a lesser extent. How did your guys cars perform (and sound) after you had your suspension parts replaced?

Sometimes I have to remind myself that i'm driving a Volkswagen and not a kit car I knocked together myself in the shed. :/

Is it definately coming from the shocks mate? Reason i ask is that you've had quite a bit done to the paintwork and the doors could be creaking around the seals depending on what they've used? My mk6 doors used to creak terrible unless i put some decent wax round the opening!

Touch wood I've not had the dreaded suspension issues that many are having on here. However, what I still have is an intermittent buzzing behind the dashboard when accelerating especially in sport mode. 

I feel your pain and am as equally as frustrated with my car as you are and many others on here. There's no way a brand new car should be making all the noises you describe. Get it back into the dealership ASAP.

I have my car with vw birmingham at the moment at long last (5 days) they have told me it was the 'strut mounts' they have ordered replacements and will be fitted tomorrow.

My front passenger window creaks in its seal unless you crack the window open the tiniest bit. Been meaning to get some gummi-pfledge on there to stop it, but instead i've had "Faith no more" up at quite a volume in the car.

All this talk about squeaks, bumps and rattles is starting to worry me as I never drive this GTI its the wifes car and I am normally working away, she would not hear a thing above the din of Micheal Buble

Its only done 600 miles in the 10 weeks she has had it, I need to get a spin out when I am home next and see what I can hear, I do know she drives it in Sport all the time and never puts it in Comfort as in her words "its a GTI why do I need Comfort!" (waste of cash on that extra then).

The amount of folks having suspension issues is scarey, surely there will be a recall soon.

I have a 7 year old MK5 GT Sport 170 and its as quiet as the day I bought it, never missed a beat, done 135,000 motorway miles, straight through all MOT's, gets tyres when required and since warranty expired just has regular oil changes, never been back to the garage for anything wrong, I expect just the same from the new GTI, will keep you posted ..............

Definitely the shocks, it sounds like a bottle falling on a concrete floor every time I go over a bump. I'm gonna keep taking it back and then contact Volkswagen UK Customer Services directly and tell them this is unacceptable. I'm gonna bang on about the paintwork until they sub-contract it to. I'll take legal action if I have to.

pointless taking it back more than a few times if they are unable to resolve the problems.
You have a few options.

a) take it to a different dealership to see if they can resolve the issues
b) contact Volkswagen customer service and reject the car, if you have PCP contact them and tell them to deal with it.
c) continue to give your dealership time to resolve them issues

I would list all your issues and the dates/times when your dealership attempted to fix them. The in writing give them clear instuctions to resolve all outstanding issues otherwise your going to reject the car.
Ask them to keep the car until they are all fixed and a courtesy car to be provided.

I never even thought of taking it to another dealer, how would I go about that?

6 days!!!! You need a new dealer! Mine went in for 1/2 a day, they returned it saying it was the strut mounts and they would call me when they were in. 7 days later, the car went in for another 1/2 day....job done. Total lost time = zero as they collected and delivered the car, and completed the repair while I was at work.
