I've no doubt they wont be impressed that I didn't buy the car from them but they were given a chance to quote me....
The service counter staff will not know or care where you bought the car from. Its just another car booked in to them.

I must say I personally think it's a shame that so many people appear to place so little value on having and building a relationship with their local dealership, I got some discount from list price on our car but not anywhere near a ' Drive the deal' price. If people carry on buying on price alone we will no longer have shops/dealerships to look at and visit to help us make informed choices.

I agree, if it wasn't for the relationship with my dealership I would have never got a discount better than DTD.
But for many, a saving is still a saving and the more you can save, the more it's in your pocket.

When there's a couple of thousand quid at stake in the decision, I could do without a friendly face if they're going to give me a sh!te part-ex price and no discount. If there's a couple of hundred quid in the "price to change" by staying local then I will, and I have. Competition is healthy for the consumer. When there's £5200 profit in a £26k car plus maybe £3k to be made in the part ex, most places can afford to give a discount.

My most local dealership offered no discount at point of ordering (Good Friday, before any discounts were apparent), and a lowish part-ex. I always go to one of the two local branches for servicing/warranty work because one is close to work and one is close to home. I tried my luck at the rival local(ish) dealership group and it paid off. I was almost £2000 better off going to the other place. They are very friendly and accommodating at car purchase time, but a little too far to practically go for servicing/warranty. So I have a decent relationship with both places, but for very different reasons.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

It all depends at what price you value a relationship with the local dealer.

I gave my local dealer a chance to beat the DTD quote by telling him exactly what it was. He tried his best but in the end was still about £900 off even after a 11% discount. In the end I decided to continue my relationship with the local dealer. It hasn't been smooth sailing but they've been exemplary and I strongly believe I wouldn't have the same level of satisfaction going through DTD. My car is here but I haven't taken delivery yet but I don't have any fears of being left high and dry in the after sales period should any need arise. Perhaps I was wrong and I'll never know the level of service I could have had elsewhere but it was well worth it for me so no regrets so far.

I gave my local dealer the chance too - 6% off list. Went to DtD and they introduced me to another dealer about an hour away - 12% off! Thats over £1,500 difference.

I will still have the car serviced locally so I do maintain a 'relationship' with the dealer but will not favour them to the tune of £1,500 over a rival franchised dealer selling the exact same product.

Thanks all for the info on the service plan
I bought mine a couple of months in, and received the agreement this week with the small print where it states that the brake fluid is excluded. The dealer's looking into it.

Thanks for opinions chaps, will just get the service plan sorted at point of purchase.

For those bemoaning not sticking with local dealers. I gave them the DTD price and also one from another main dealer explaining that I didn't expect them to beat it due to their overheads but at least try and give me a competitive price. Their email reply was, quote " I'm sorry but we wont be supplying your new Golf Gti as our price will be as near as possible to list". They obviously don't need the business.

I also sold the other halfs Audi A3 a couple of months ago privately for £1500 more than the trade in price.
All in  all I'm looking at about £5000 difference. (less the £500 for the 2005 Focus diesel with 140,000miles she's pootling about in for the winter!!)
I don't mind paying for local service but they have to actually try and provide some first!!

Current,
2021 Audi S3 Vorsprung, Tango Red.
2020 Up Gti, Tungsten silver. (Early buy for daughter...who's 15!!)
Previous,
2019 Mk7.5 Gti PP, Indium Grey.
2016 Mk7 Gtd Carbon grey.
2014 Mk7 Gti, Tornado red.
2006 Mk5 Gti, Reflex silver.     Plus many more.
