Golf Gti 1.8t 2002 AUM problem
« on: 13 December 2013, 11:59 »
Hello,

I have a little problem with my 1.8t low revs between 1200rpm and 2200rpm ish, sometimes when im pulling away slowly in first gear it will hesitate only once like a misfire bit the whole car will lunge it makes me shoot forward if you know what i mean? other times it can be small and other times it will just have a flat spot untill the turbo kicks in and it will be fine, if i boot it you cant feel it,it will also happen in 2nd but not as bad, the car is completely standard apart from a cat back exhaust, it also has full volkswagen service history.

I have vag com and have the

16396/P0012/000018 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded) most of the time because i think my cam chain tensioner needs replacing, havent had chance to look at it yet.

16395/P0011/000017 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Retard Setpoint not Reached (Over-Advanced) i have this one too sometimes but i think its linked to the p0012

17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

If anyone has any information on this or have had this problem before, i would really appreciate your input, thanks :)

Cam chain tensioner will be the cause of the first two. Enjoy searching for the problem causing the third fault code, could be anything from a hole in a breather to a broken clip on a boost hose...

Basically the AUM compensates for a boost leak by upping the boost at the turbo until it hits the required amount at the MAP sensor.

ok mate, thanks :)  have you had to replace a tensioner before? is so what's the job like? fairly straight forward? I've had a quick look for a boost leak but I read about the standard Bosch diverter valves being a cause of this last code too? do you think it's linked to occasional misfire too?

My car does this aswell if im trying to drive carefully like crawling in traffic ect the g/f always moans at me and doesnt believe its the car and not me lol theres no way I have a boost leak or anything as there is nothing original left of the boost hoses vac hoses ect and it brings up no fault codes what so ever !
