Iphone 5's and MDI
« on: 08 December 2013, 17:49 »
Do VW do a new lead for iphone 5's or do we just have to use a lightning adapter in order to keep the MDI function?

Looking at the mk7 section, looks like there may be one available now.  Have a look in the mark 7 section.

Otherwise with the old version, you need a 30pin to lightning adapter.  Genuine apple ones work fine. Some third party ones only charge and don't support audio.

I have the genuine apple adaptor, everything works fine apart from one big problem, armrest lid wont shut completely because of the added dimensions

Let us know the part no if you find the proper lead in mk7 section as I rang the local dealer which told me no product available yet.

Strange, my armrest lid does close fully with adapter attached.  The iPod itself is skinny though (5th gen touch)

In mk7 section a few have said the new lightning cable is supposed to ship with cars on build week 45 (delivery mid Dec) and should be showing up on ebay shortly after that.

Interesting, ipod touch is about the same size as an iphone5?i will try it in the mk6 tomorrow,i just presumed that because it wouldn't fit in my mk5 armrest, maybee they made the box deeper in the mk6

I would still prefer the proper cable tho, saves me keep swapping the adaptor from  car to work/home.

Yeah, exact same width and height dimensions (without any case/holder).  iPod much thinner though, so you can angle it a bit in the slot, maybe makes a difference.
