VW assist, what a bunch of to55ers....
« on: 07 December 2013, 10:57 »
Right so here's the story.

As you may know I took delivery of my new GTD on the 14th September, and as you also know, all new vehicles in the UK come with a (miserly) 1 years road side assist.

Now swing back 2 1/2 years ago when I purchased my then new Scirocco, it obviously also came with a years free assist, which I extended on both my wife's and my car to 3 years each (as they were doing a really good deal at the time), so this was to expire on the 14th March 2014.

Right so the Sciroccos gone, which effectively means I lost the last 6 months or so of my cover on the Scirocco as apparently it's non transferable, and ends when the car is sold. No problem I thought, the GTD will have a years anyway. Now here's the interesting bit that's really screwed VW up, I've done something that no other owner must have ever done before - my private plate I had on the Scirocco, was transferred directly onto the new Golf. This must have been a first, and apparently no one since the dawn of time has ever taken their private reg from their old car to the new it would seem

After waiting nearly 2 months to receive notification of my new cover nothing arrived so a I called them they told me nothing would come out to me until Feb 14 as my policy didn't expire until March 14. I thought WTF, surely it should end at the end of Sep 14 (one year after I picked up the car). Seems they hadn't done the transfer across to the new vehicle and still had me on the Scirocco even though it had been traded in with a VW dealer and the new owner has since taken out assist in his own name on this car (with a newly applied reg no from DVLA).

Well imagine my surprise then when today I received 2 letters in the post. The first is my new VW assist membership card. Great I thought, until I checked the expiry - yes you guessed it 14th March 2014. Furthermore the letter went on to say I had to do nothing as this policy was set to auto renew and they would debit my account accordingly. Now I paid for the "upgraded" on my credit card as a one off payment, certainly no instructions to auto renew was given.

I just spent the best part of a hour on the phone sorting this out, and am still not even 100% sure it's been done properly (and this is the 3rd call). The lady at the other end this time did seem to know what she was doing, and whilst she was sorting it out kept saying stuff like "idiots", "good grief, how have they managed to completely screw it up this badly", "it's not like its rocket science is it !" - which TBH made me smile.

The killer then is as I came off the phone, I opened the second letter and it said congratulations on the purchase of your new Audi, and welcome to Audi assist - with my registration number...WTF !

Aggrrrrrr..............

What a bunch of jokers!! >:(

This makes me nervous tbh mate and it's been in the back of my head for while, when i placed the order for the mk7 i thought it would arrive before my VW assist on the mk6 expired so i'd just cancel it, however that didn't happen so i had a chat with them to ask about a part year till the new car arrived, a very nice lady said that the best way to do that was to renew the policy but pay monthly, that way i could cancel at any time and only lose a part month so thats what i did, i cancelled the policy when i collected the mk7 which had my private reg on but as yet i haven't had anything for the new car which i'll need to cancel anyway, i just hope that when the R arrives and has my private reg on that i'm not going to have a similar issue to yourself!?

Congrats on the new Audi though!!! ::) ;D
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂
