ooo mcmaddy, interested to see how you get on :) (I used to live in Hamburg :) ) - but more interested in the cable you test rather than the german translations hehehe :P

I currently use a nokia retractable charger, and it fits beautifully into the lighter socket, and has a faint blue glow, so kinda works with the rest of the lighting :)

Much prefer the sockets that face upwards, than the ones on the actual dash. As this nokia charger can be quite big, so falls out alot. (No issue in the GTD!)

Do we think that an S3 compatible cable will have any function other than charge? (I only have the normal sounds system).

I plan to just go the VW dealer and check all the Golf glove boxes for one and steal one.

  most will be the blue cables unless they have a car in with Discover Nav Pro.

I ended up buying the iPhone5 MDI cable off eBay as my car didn't come with one, think Wolfsburg missed it
All I need to now is a Red collar one... trying to get my dealership to swap it for the blue one.

Does the red collar lead work with the standard head unit. My dealer is adamant that it has the Sam functions as the blue collar lead, unless I have a discover nav pro unit!

Haven't tested myself as I don't have the red collar cable but I'm sure it has been posted in a previous thread that the red collar does work with the standard media unit and allow media playback.

Can music still be played from a USB stick like it can via the MDI on the Mk.6 and Scirocco (using that cable of course)?

I am presuming yes given the accessory name is still MDI (multi device - not Apple device!).
