Photocopy a tax disc. I.e if the vehicle with the original plate has tax so it will seem this car has.

I don't think it will make cloning any easier whatsoever. Any suspicion and they check VIN numbers anyway or at least the last three in my experience.

Where all my moneys went.

Remember, we all know its tax but its based on emissions now. These green freaks will go through the roof if they decide to put more on fuel instead. Those that have bought a low emission car for they're daily grind  won't be too happy about it. The fact that the low emission cars are generally the most fuel efficient will pass them by, but there will always be an argument against it. The little scrotes in government won't want an argument with the general public, especially this close to election time.

I think the problem here is this........

At this present time, if your stopped by police for a regular stop the most common thing they do is walk to your windscreen and check your tax disc, in all honesty a photocopied one will be spotted a mile off.

As I am thinking is with the tax discs going and it all being based on a "database" In essence I could do the following.... (Not that I would)
* Look for a reflex silver mk4 golf, Not that hard to find one.
* Find one about the same age I.E reg.
* Try and make sure the owner looks to be a professional I.E not likely to NOT be legal and a guy to match me.
* Go to ebay and order his/her number plate.
* Put them on my car.

By doing this, I would never have to ever Tax my car, MOT my car or insure my car all I would have to do is fuel it and hope the owner never spots my car and think "hang on that's my reg" and hope I never get pulled by the police which in all fairness in the 5 years I have been driving I haven't yet been pulled nor given any reason to be pulled.

At least with the paper tax disc in my screen atm they are unique.

why not add this in with the mot

so when you have a mot the tax for the year is automatically paid too simple really
garage pays a fixed price to goverment and all mots are fixed at one price it would be far simpler

It would, but not all cars are bought at the same time, plus not registered at the same time either.
So you would have a short fall, because I MOT and TAX my car at different times to spread the cost of motoring plus insurance is done another also to help spread costs!

I'm still shocked people are not seeing the true cost of this old tradition of tax disc going, trust me in a few years we will only be able to buy registration plates from DVLA with smart recognition identifiers and they wont be cheap either! Plus you are thinking well I will just buy a secondhand car already with a smart plate? Well I can see DVLA charging amendments to smart tags to reflect new owners and addresses and picture ID's linked with our driving licenses! they have changed the V5 already and MOT is just a printable bit of paper which is useless as I only use it for TAX discs purposes?
