eSure - bunch of muppets
« on: 04 December 2013, 11:55 »
Just got off the phone to eSure, took me 5 minutes to explain I was picking up a new car and needed to insure my old car temporarily.  He just about got it, then there was another 5 minutes trying to find the golf on the system, we came up with Golf Performance TSI, does this sound right to you?

He had to keep asking his supervisor what to do. After all that, he got his sums wrong and owed me money, even though it's a more powerful car.

Sigh, can't get the staff anymore.

Just because it is more powerful the it doesn't mean the risk to the insurer is greater... The prices they quote you are not based on power alone, there are plenty of other aspect that contribute e.g. safety features, cost to repair etc.

My GTD costs less to insure than my old Scirocco 170TDI, by about £50 a year. More claim history related to the Golf (albeit older incarnations) than the Scirocco (even though it is pretty much a MK6 Golf under the skin with a different interior). The raft of new collision prevention and harm minimalisation tech on the MK7 probably make it a safer bet than most comparable cars of the previous generation.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
MK7 R 5 door, manual, Lapiz Blue, Prets.

Here's an example of the conversation

Them : So we'll put your new car on temporary insurance.
Me : No, New car on insurance, old car on temporary until I can sell it
Them : Oh, sorry. How long do you want to keep your new car for?
Me : Er, forever.
Them : Let me just check something <on hold music>.  OK sir, you want to switch your policy over to a new car on the 12th, and keep your old car until you sell it.
Me : Hallejuhah!

I was on one then, rang AA to complain why my renewal was £167, and new customers get charged £90.  Down to £72 straight away. WHAT!!??

I was insured with eSure on my Mk5 GTI and had cancelled the policy after selling the car ahead of delivery of the mk7.

eSure are the cheapest again at £275 even though I have claimed twice for Malicious damage and Accidental damage in the past 3 years.

They handled my last claim with a slight cock up (paid me £35 towards my courtesy car hire as I didn't want a crappy Chevrolet spark) but generally happy with them.

My insurance was £155. I couldn't believe how cheap it was. We are talking about a car that costs the good part of £30k!!

I was right! Bunch of muppets, I asked the guy to switch over my current car on the 12th to the Golf, then the keep the current car as temporary.  Doesn't sound too difficult does it?

What he did was cancel all my insurance until the 12th.  So I've been driving my current car with no insurance for 3 days.  I've sold it now, so it's academic, but if I'd have been pulled over my the police I wouldn't have been best pleased.
