To be fair, its two months not four. Unfortunately timing for disposal of present car etc. was all arranged on the basis of VW's estimated 26 week delivery timetable......the GTI actually arrived in about 14 weeks leaving me a little bit caught out!

Absolutely same position. Saw my car this week to make sure everything was there and arranged delivery time on morning of March 1st - dealer reckons there's so much tech on the car it'll take 2hours to go through it all! It's now gone to the covered compound. About 2 months till it returns for PDI in mid-Feb. Worry not it'll be absolutely fine!

If that happened to me I would tell them to take the car in to stock and order me a new one. No way I would want my pride and joy laid up in winter for 2.5 months!!!

I have to say, I cannot believe how bad VW are for ordering a car from.

Ok, yes Im in Norn Iron (Northern Ireland) so orders may not be just a quick as the mainland but I ordered a GTD on the 27th Sept (may be a day or 2 out) and as of tonight, I still dont have a f&^king buld date. Jesus wept, when I ordered it the dealer said it would be here by the end of November  Not that I was bothered at the time, as I wanted to wait until after Jan 1st so it would be a 2014 car.

When I called the dealer (about not even having an order number after 5 weeks) I was assured my car was scheduled for BW5 2014 and should be here by the 2nd week of March, dafuq??  Now this is just turning into a fecking joke. How can a company fall so quickly behind in orders?

But in good news, I checked the order sheet from the dealer and it states delivery as 31st Jan, so I can tell them to stick it where the sun dont shine and get my deposit back in 6 weeks. (GT86 here we come)

To be fair the NI dealers is one of the reasons why I ordered from a dealer on the mainland and drive it back.

Surprised that any dealer gave u that timescale given the waiting list since release and it would normally take 12 weeks for any new car

You've been told porkies as the lead time here in the UK is 25 weeks, not sure if Ireland is any different?
I was one of the very lucky ones to have had my car delivered in under 13 weeks :)

If you were promised the car for this year and now told that it will be BW5 next year and this is not acceptable to you then get your deposit back now. You can cancel at any time and get your deposit back as the goods have not been supplied.

In an ideal world yes but as we've seen on here there's far too much variability in lead times to be able to say with any confidence when the newly ordered car will arrive. There was a slight problem with my order after it arrived and the dealer offered to reorder but couldnt quote a lead time with any certainty. He says vw have reduced the lead time they can quote to customers to 18 weeks now (mine came in 12) but said it wouldn't be before April/May.

I want mine not a day later than 1 march and now that it's arrived, all uncertainty surrounding that has gone.

Many stock ordered cars, especially higher end ones frequently hang around in compounds or on the forecourt for weeks before they are sold. If it's in a covered lot I don't think winter should affect.

hopefully mine will change towards the end of December then. Ordered 9th October, I have an email from the dealer which states confirmed build week as 4/14 but nothing is confirmed on the trackmyorder system - its still showing as "with the factory"

Submitted my company car forms 3rd week of September
Suspect the order date was similar to yours
Mine went from "with factory" to "in build" just over a week ago.
I wont be able to collect till the Scirocco lease expires 2nd week of March

The order tracker is switched off again whilst they make improvements.

Wonder if that is aesthetic improvements or are they actually going to have a go at reliability of information? :-p

I have just checked and mine has moved back from Build In Progress ( which my dealer had already suggested was wrong compared to his info) and now shows as build Week confirmed as wc 13th Jan which now aligns with what he said a couple of weeks ago.
Not bothered by having to wait for it as I know it is being kept inside and as long as it is built properly with the right options. I know he will give me call when it arrives at their pdi centre and I will go and take a look to satisfy my curiosity. My dealer is very laid back and have no problem keeping it until I am ready to take delivery late April. That way the worst of the winter will be long gone and can look forward to a nice long summer and longer days to enjoy it.
Done the winter pick up and won't be doing it again !! The anticipation and excitement of owning a shiny new car disappear when it is crapped up to high heaven within hours and then it is dark more than it is light for weeks on end !!
