Driving a DSG GT for a couple of days
« on: 02 December 2013, 21:41 »
My BW43 (actually built BW 45) car has been in the UK since last Monday and after originally penciling in Saturday just gone to collect, I was informed on Friday that the transporter lorry was coming Monday (today) so collection postponed.

Today I received a phone call saying the transporter lorry had broken down after leaving the port and delivery isn't going to be until tomorrow afternoon  :cry:

Trouble is that I am away for work each week from Tues-Thurs and so the dealer has loaned me a mk7 GT for a couple of days until I can collect my GTI on Thursday afternoon.

For a non GTI/GTD it really is a nippy car, you can floor it and there is bags of torque.

It's made me realise two things;

1) I'm glad I didn't order DSG.
2) I'm glad I did order DynAudio

 :smiley:

Oh and my dealer gave me a GTI mug and GTI socks as it was my birthday last week  :cool:

Each to their own. DSG is the fastest performance in manual mode with paddle shifters though . The GT doesn't have paddles as far as I remember?
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

Yeah totally, different strokes for different folks as they say.

It does have paddle shifters, perhaps I'll give it another go but first impressions are I prefer the driving experience of using the gear stick regardless of how quick the DSG can do the shift.

I'll be honest with you and say Drive mode in DSG is crap to be honest. But yes give it a go in manual mode with the paddles, that's when the gearbox makes sense.

Eco mode is also excellent if you're not bothered about speed. Has a clever system that puts the car into neutral everytime you take the foot off the accelerator, removing the engine braking and using the natural motion of the wheel's rolling. Amazing how long you can keep the speed going without an accelerator even on a flat!

That's really bad luck with the transporter mate. But atleast your'll have it soon then! :)

Dynaudio is excellent you won't be disappointed. If anything the subwoofer is too bassy! I've had to turn it down to 7/10 and I love my bass!

Thanks for this insight Monsta. Certainly pleased I specced the Manual & Dynaudio too. Just want to get my mitts on it now, getting built this week (hopefully).
I was going to order a GT, but the GTi kept winking at me. I test drove both, and yes, the GT is pretty nippy, but hell, the GTi was the nuts and won me over in every respect.
Hope it all goes great for you when you collect yours on Thursday  :laugh: Photos please!
2014 GTi Mk7 5dr Manual, Reflex Silver, PP, DNS, Dynaudio, Pano Roof.
