Anyone else's iPhone/iPod cable crap?
« on: 01 December 2013, 16:21 »
For the first time ever I plugged my iPhone 4S into the car today and the cable isn't very secure at all? It drops out while driving and just needs a very gentle tug and just pops out the bottom? Is this normal? I have to push it in and position my phone so it's resting against something to keep the cable plugged in. There's no click or anything.

30-pin connector, right? Have you tried rotating the connector through 180 degrees before connecting to your iPhone? In other words, try the connector the other way round.

Correct the 30 pin connector. It only goes in one way around I think? Won't go in the other way for me atleast.

Mine has the blue collar and seems to connect firmly to my old iPod Classic.

Mine also has the blue collar and doesn't grip anything firmly. The cable constantly drops out and stops charging. I would have thought that for 30k you'd get a proper Apple cable.

I'm sure you're not far from me, and I have a spare "old" blue collar lead from my Scirocco unused, as i'm a bit of an apple-phobe (don't want itunes tying my computers up in knots behind the scenes). You're welcome to it if you want to see if it grips the socket better than yours.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

It's definitely a regular problem with the 30 pin connector and cars.  Every VW and Audi I've had with a 30 pin connector didn't grip well, my partner's Mini has a 30 pin cable and that doesn't grip either.  I'm glad my latest iPhone has a lightning connector.

I did used to find that giving all the dust etc a clean out from the hole in the bottom of the phone helps, plus taking the case off also helps (but it's a pain to keep taking the phone out of the case every time you get in the car).

Ok just to add into the mix.
My brother has a Golf 6 with MDI.
Blue iPod cable refuses to plug into his iPhone and stay in.
Try mine and it fits perfectly, both are iPhone 4S models :)
