Buying a mechanical part like a thermostat is a very different proposition to buying a solid state part.

Would I buy a stat from a third party?  No - they're terrible, in general.

Would I buy solid state sensors from a third party?  Yes, because they can be rig-tested easily and simply nothing has to move for it to work.

I'll be sure to let you all know if it lets go, or if the good quality branded VW specialist ABS sensor I fitted fails.

Let's face it, it's all inferior to OEM VW quality..... particularly when you see where the VW part number has been ground off the part, post casting  .

Hey guys lets not forget there are other parts suppliers, such as Unipart, GSF, Andrew Page, MPD, Arnold Clark & various fred in a shed type shops up and down the country.

Euro Car Parts are like the Tescos of the motor factors, you either love them or hate them.

I don't care where I buy parts from as long as they are good quality.

ECP use OCAP for suspension parts, cheap but total total sh!t. Brothers van stuck some on for an MOT and a year later they were knackered and when I say knackered I mean absolutely wanked. Vivaros do go thru rod ends quick but a year or the 8 months or whatever is ridiculous.

Lemforder which we all know is a good brand, stuck them on and been two years and it passed the other day.

Same with brake pads, Eicher is alright but Pagid is just that bit better and I replaced some front pads on an RS5 the other day which hasn't been touched from new and to my surprise it had PAGID stamps on them. Customer said never ever been done.

IMO it's not the supplier but the brands when it comes to parts.

I have to admit, whether it's this thread that has made me notice more or not there are a lot of very pissed off retail customers I have seen recently, which is a shame as for trade I really, really cannot fault them further than sometimes they seem to lack doing certain parts, like no exhaust back box for an Iveco daily, yet they do a downpipe? SCMF did the box.

Yet they do full service kits for BMW auto boxes, oil, sump pan the lot all in one box with the typically failing loom seal. Never would I guess anyone but BMW/Land Rover would sell it but they do and I can't remember the brand but it was the same part that came off.

People have said I should stock some cheaper brands but I don't want to do an ecp and reduce my quality for a few more sales (I have started to stock brakes by Brake engineering and clutches by National Friction which are a bit cheaper than my usual delphi/LUK ranges but both are respected known brands)

Would you buy brakes branded "drivemaster" and save about £3-5 (and t.b.h they are better than eicher! I know who makes drivemaster and you would be surprised!  )

People have said I should stock some cheaper brands but I don't want to do an ecp and reduce my quality for a few more sales (I have started to stock brakes by Brake engineering and clutches by National Friction which are a bit cheaper than my usual delphi/LUK ranges but both are respected known brands)

I'd still do cheaper stuff but make it well known on site they are budget sh!t.

You are quite right.
We supply Valeo/Delhpi/Bosch/VW/Renault to name a few with all sorts of stuff.
Some is badged, some is not, its all the same standard until you get hit with a price down...
In short without getting into to much tech detail, by the time parts are made in China or India they are stripped of any excess and made with locally sourced materials. Quality is lowered along with the price but so long as they pass the test they are FFF.
If something is a b!tch to do then I go for OEM European made parts, if its simple like an ABS sensor then I go for the cheapest which can be Asian or European and chance that it was made on a good day.
Generally Eastern European parts are made with the original tooling and automation with the labour being the major cost saving, Asian stuff can be full of reworked and reused materials and is a lot cheaper for this reason as well as the labour and initial investment being less than say our Czech plant.

If it keeps you alive then dont use cheap stuff end of
