Noise restriction laws?
« on: 29 November 2013, 11:41 »
Does anyone know if there's any laws of making noise while working between any hours?

I often work late (2am last night) keeping vans on the road in the day and just wondering if I could potentially break any laws.

One I did last night is on my (well parents) land and I keep all the air tools off and repeatedly ask my neighbors but they say they can't hear a thing. I do keep quite though tbf.

However moving into a lock up soon, nowhere near houses really just offices, a Royal Mail depot etc but there's some incredibly arsey people working around there even at night, just wondering if I'm gonna put myself in a position to get moaned at. A hell of a lot of minimum wage factory workers etc (nothing wrong with that whatsoever, good to see people willing to work) but get the arse cause someone is trying to earn a fair wage working their nuts off.

Cheers.

Councils can impose noise restrictions. Mainly in residential areas that have some commercial activity alongside.

I.E one of the supermarkets I managed in my area (many years ago) had delivery restrictions not before / after certain hours.

In your case, Any complainants will have to get in touch with the council and make a noise complaint. Just like noisy neighbours they will ask then to complete a log. They'll send some chap out with a decibel-o-meter to check as well.

If they agree, they will issue you a noise abatement order. Breach it and you will get fined etc...

But from what you said, I think you'll be fine.

Danny Monday got it a load of problems with the police over noise when he was working on his Ibiza, might be worth PMing him.

if you say there is a royal mail depo they will have lorry's in and out all day and night the noise from one o f them is going to be louder than an air tool inside a factory.

You shouldn't have any problems.
