a few silly questions
« on: 27 November 2013, 18:37 »
Okay so ive just bought myself a mk2 gti 8V, a bit of a spur of the moment thing.

i dont know much about these cars so ive got a few questions about a few things.

Firstly, when i put the sidelights on the headlights come on. Dont know why??

The gear linkage it really sloppy, is it a simple thing to change the bushes? or would it be easier to replace the linkage?

Sometimes when im going along i will just start dieing on my. if i turn it off then start it again it runs fine again for a bit. plus it seems to be worse when its cold. Im thinking of just replacing the plugs, ht leads and dizzy cap. hopefully that will sort it. not sure the last time it had a service so oil and filters will be done too. its got 111000 miles on it by the way.

and finally for now, is there anything i should be doing to it now. Any essencial mods etc.

thanks

Ryan

While doing your linkage you could upgrade to a weighted shift rod off a mk3. The headlights are a bit dim so you could uprate the looms to give better voltage. Give it a good service and tune it using the guide in the maintenance section if it's a digi.

When you put the sidelights on the headlamps come on dimly as it routes through a resistor to the headlamps. It's a feature.
A lot of people disconnect it.

When i put the sidelights on the dipped beam comes on full blast. then when i press the switch all they way for dipped beam it makes no difference to the lights. they are bright enough to light the road.

Il do a search for more info about that linkage. Where can i get the bits from?

bear with me here but does digi mean fuel injection rather than carb?

Digi is year dependant. It's the second fuel injection system after kjetronic. I just went to get the gear linkage set for me to do today but gsf no longer have it on their site. Will give them a call now to see if they still do it.
EDIT: they don't show it on the site but if you ring your local gsf they might have some old stock on the shelf like mine did.
