Discover Pro Poor Reliability
« on: 26 November 2013, 19:06 »
Hi all, is anyone else experiencing poor performance. I have constant freezing of the maps, today it froze when I left Birmingham airport, travelling to Bristol. The gps still worked, the colour display, and in maps small menu worked too, but the maps stayed frozen on the location in Brum, today... I have had this around 2-3 times a week since new. Also it has sporadic hang ups on phone, dialling out but no audio connection, and music, not allowing selection of any music at all from the phone, iPhone5. The sat nav glitch is the most annoying  I must say.

I have had map freeze and occasional German.  From my research a software update will probably fix this.  It is not uncommon.

I tried to get VW customer service to ask their tech people but they said:
'take it to the dealers"
"it is an intermittent fault so they will not see it"
"Well, when it happens drive to the dealers!"
"What if I am halfway to Swansea?"
"Take it to the closest dealer"
I telephoned my dealer and they have not got a clue about the infotainment software:
"it's new, it will have the latest software"
"No, it is three versions old"
"it can't be,  fetch it in for two hours and we will examine it"
They bill VW for two hours and …"
Not sure if it is not better to get lost occasionally and learn a bit of German than waste a day not getting it sorted.

What software version is your Nav pro running - latest is 0200 (I'm on 0179), and everything works perfectly ?

Software 0192 here, and I've had the audio go AWOL on radio and media sluggish to respond whilst nav worked fine with sound. I had to do a "reset to factory" to get it working again - which also cleared all radio presets, nav history and bluetooth settings

It has only happened to me once so far...

Not sure how you can tell what version it is but in the first 300 miles of use it has frozen once and located me in Germany once. For the money IMHO it is very poor, not a patch on TomTom. The first time I needed to use it was on the way back from the dealers when the A24 was closed and twice it tried to take me up private driveways! Ended up plugging in my TomTom, but that now has difficulty getting a signal because of the heated screen.
If it were a recognised Satnav supplier you would expect new firmware releases to come out that helped sort out issues and maybe even improve functionality, with VW it seems that you're stuck.

mmm...seems like these units were released before the software was properly tested!

Driving to work this morning and the radio just goes silent again . Everything else is working fine including the other media sources but this about the third time this has happened now. It is piss poor for a £1700 system and is becoming bloody annoying
