Midlands to Paris best way
« on: 24 November 2013, 11:39 »
As title says looking at going to Paris for a long weekend but can't work out the best way to get there be it fly, train, coach or even drive. I can't work out the best way because coach is by far the cheapest but takes nearly 13hours. flying is the most expensive but the flight is only 1 1/2 hours but gotta get to the airport and all the waiting around before, driving is about 415miles each but the train is so expensive to get into London, this would be for 2 people going about April next year so booking well in advance to get the cost down
 Has anyone been to France recently if so what method would you recommend is the best trade of for time v cost

Thanks for replies

Drove to Paris (from Kent then Euro tunnel) for le tour de France back in July, we were staying in near the Eiffel tower so parked here;

was €60 for 3 days, 100% secure and multiple entry / exits.  Drving into Paris isn't as big a nightmare as people make out, the weekends are easier to drive on as the French pretty much ban HGVs from driving on the weekend and most of the trips happen on the week days.  NB there's quite a few toll roads on the way down, I can't remember the cost of them.

You might want to consider driving to ebsfleet, parking there and then getting the eurostar, you can get good deals on the star and driving past london will cut a massive amount of the train costs.

Personally I'd quite happily drive to Paris again, but this would depend on how much more the euro star was charging at the time.  when we went all the prices has been ramped up to cash in on the tour.

Train every time. My misses is from provence and we train direct to avignon for less than the flights would cost and much less stress in about the same time door to door.
To save money this side of la manche  you could coach it to King's Cross.
Book in advance always. And check the internal costs from lille rather than eurostar all the way to Paris

what was putting me off the Eurostar was the fact it would cost £225 for two people return to get to London so now looking at driving to an outskirt tube station then tube in for a fiver, 100 miles to London should be about £20 in fuel then bout £20 in parking... much cheaper :)

Eurostar from ebbsfleet... But I'm bias as ebbsfleet is 5min walk for me and northfleet is 60seconds away (I litrally fall out of bed and depart 2min before the train, if things go tits up then I go home make a cuppa and then leave 2min before next train)... Yeah I'm lazy

Chelsea wants to go for her birthday in February. Isn't it going to be more expensive around Valentines?

everywhere is more expensive round Valentines, you might get deals on the trains if you book early but expect to get r4ped on the hotel and eating out.
