2001 MK 4 S - Very Little Power
« on: 23 November 2013, 13:36 »
Hi I wondered if some people could shed some advice?
I've had the car about 6 months, theortically speaking there are no problems with it.
But going up hills the car really really struggles and going on Motorways once it gets up to 70mph and even lower it really struggles. I know its quite a weighty car but for a 1.4 16v the power in it is really quite terrible.
I've tried the air filter change and piled redex / injector cleaner in but nothing seems to help.

Also the fuel economy is absolutely terrible, i put about £20 in a week and that gets me about 60 miles!

Any advice would be most appreciated.

actually I had an error code about 3 months back that showed running rich. Switched it off though and its not come back. Anyway to pinpoint which sensor it would be?

ps thanks for the advice :)

In all honesty it's probably just because it's a small engine in an old car

You're poor consumption is probably down to having to thrash the car to get it anywhere.

My dad had this engine in his MK4. Its quicker to walk

75bhp in a big heavy car = pointless

Running rich won't help your cause either
