Ecu chippe now car won't start :(
« on: 22 November 2013, 19:44 »
As I have 8v the ecu has to be chipped and soldered in

So I went to a computer specialist and they soldered a EPROM socket in for me and I fitted the chip in but now have no spark or fuel.

Now the solders's couldn't get solder on to 3pins so this is probably my fault but

My question is - is the chip the right way round in the socket as I'm not sure if they soldered the socket in the right way round

And what's the chance of it being blank ?

Did you not take a photo of the board and chip before you took the original one out?

What do you mean there is no solder on three of the pins?

No I had the chip fitted by a pc repair centre and I instructed them to fit the EPROM with the direction lug the same way as the original chip came out but I haven't spoken to them yet to confirm they did was just an option

When they soldered the EPROM in to the motherboard some of the pins wouldn't take the solder apparently

Also your pretty handy with vagcom aren't you ^ , know an ecu swap procedure on the mk3 ?

sorry for digging up an old thread but I believe there is a correct way these chips go in, had the same issue on my abf, swapped chip around and hey presto, coincidence or not but it worked for me

if it's a new chip entirely the ecu and immobiliser might just need to be remarried... few clicks in vcds

Basically in the end I swapped the ECU and like you said all configured in VCDS with a few clicks £5 ecu happy days. ,

The problem in the end was when the company removed the chip they didn't heat the pins enough and when the chip came out it took half the boards contact point with it causing my fault code of ecu read error ,

I've left it alone since and just decided to live with what I have and buy a 1.8t or vr6 instead !
