No. They are an obscure bulb that no aftermarket HID manufacturer can replicate. A fine move by VW to prevent people from fitting chavy, illegal, light scattering, inappropriate, HID burners into Mk6 Golf reflector headlights.

Well, it would be good if that was the case, but unfortunately it isn't.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

What he is say is they are illegal. They are illegal for the reason they scatter light and blind cars coming the other way causing risk of a crash. The beam pattern is different and does not conform with the law.
He is saying they are fitted by chavs in vauxhall corsa or astras to look cool. All they do is blind people and are illegal.
I regular get blinded by chaved up vauxhalls with them fitted in the countryside of northumberland.

If you have issues with light fit one of the many H7 uprated bulbs out there or buy a mk6 with the factory fit xenon lights with correct beam pattern, headlight washers to keep the beam pattern correct, and auto levelers to keep the beam pattern correct.

Yea, never understand why people fit these.

Fitted in reflector units they not only blind everyone but they look crap.

They look nothing like normal Xenons but look like someone fitted a big bright ball in each of your headlights.

Really noticeable just how many cars with these now.  They look cack and, more often than not, the lighting is inconsistent, one headlight much brighter than the other.  They are a PITA for other drivers.

I understand your pain Mattyj, the halogens really are dim and I went the whole hog and retrofitted OEM Xenons.

But the cost is high, worked out slightly more than factory fitted ones.

Upgraded bulbs do help a bit but nowhere near the Xenon output so I can see why you want to go the xenon kit route.

There was someone recently on the forum doing a replacement headlight with projector lenses and then fitting a xenon kit to those, not sure of the cost.

Here is the post
