Hi All, car arrived today and I have specced the advanced phone kit with the mandatory climate windscreen. Does anyone know how the screen is activated as I can't see any switches etc?

is your screen acoustic or is it green solar glass if it acoustic it will have a picture of a little human ear on the glass near the bottom where the vw badge is,the reason I ask is I work for a windscreen company so I can find out what your screen has on it,is the car a mk7 golf do you have rain and light sensor normally new golfs have acoustic all the climate screen will do is put your aircon on to de-mist the screen it won't melt ice as vw's never have heated screens that have the squiggly lines through the glass, regarding your phone you will just have an antenna on the glass

Good question..... I will need to know this too.. perhaps its in a menu somewhere or activates when you turn on the heated mirrors?
Out of interest, did you car come with the MDI iPod interface?
Can you also try out the USB socket in the armrest to see if the headunit see's any audio files on your smartphone?
No, the car didn't come with the MDI interface, it was a BW 41 so just missed out. Must say though the BT Audio from an iPhone is very good. Will need to invest in a 64 gb sd card over the weekend.
Hi mate, get onto your dealer and VW CS as there should be a retro-fit coming out soon. You should have had MDI as its a standard fit item.

Mmm, I thought the climate windscreen required a special glass that accepted some form of electric current. Wireless electrically conductive layer in the laminate according yo VW blurb....

Cheers, I certainly will. The car is leased so I'll get the lease company to put some pressure on VW.

Yes this is correct... it has a conductive layer built into the glass which has a 9v/12v wireless charge applied to it, which in turn heats it up.

ha ha vw talking bollox don't listen to sales men they will try and pull you pants down to make you spec your car up,only heated screens have electric running through them,vw now only do two glass's green solar reflective or acoustic trust me non of them have any special toys on the glass to clear the screen apart from turning the aircon onto the screen which is crap anyway because if it's freezing you don't want the aircon on your screen turn it off and just put the heater on the hottest setting and put the screen setting

This is from Volkswagen HQ

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the new Golf.

I am delighted to learn of your interest in Volkswagen and particularly in the legendary Golf. I can confirm that the technology used for the climate control windscreen is an electronically conductive layer powered by a 12V on board power supply.

It will provide perfect visibility at all times, which means no fogging and it will also clear ice. It is an invisible heating function and there are no wires, like the rear screen.

I hope this information proves useful. Thank you for contacting Volkswagen UK

The climate screen is a heated screen with an electrically conductive layer in it which increases the glass surface temperature....

Its a very expensive option though - due to the compulsary 'advanced' phone prep option they have it tied to - so not for me.

Any practical reason that the screen is linked in to the Phone prep option ?

Maybe the screen electro-conductive layer diminishes or interferes with the mobile phone signal.

The 'advanced telephone ' option connects the phone to the cars' external aerial for improved reception apparently.
