Hi,

I am in a similar position. Car ordered 22 October and being build W/B 24/11/13!!   My PCP on my current Golf ends July 14  :undecided:

I will have to try and find the money to finish it early, as I can't imagine being able to handle my new car sitting in the dealers storage area for 6 months!

I'm pretty excited though

Ian

Ian, may be worth playing a game with the dealer, and seeing if they want to get the car out sooner. If they do, they might be able to help bridge the gap so it doesn't cost as much to change.

If they don't need it earlier, then you'll have to stomach it. Or wait. I couldn't do the latter
Recently sold my GTD.

Similar position as some of you on here as can't take delivery till 1 March. Car is due to arrive in 3 weeks.

Is there any way to prevent dealer from selling my one and ordering another one with my spec in the hope that it arrives in time for march and I'm none the wiser?

Stiggy - You should speak to the dealer. He is unlikely to simply sell the car unless you agree with him its the sensible way forward. On the other hand not sure I would want a brand new car standing around for 2.5 months, but even if you re-order now you would prob not see it till mid April - tricky really...

Exactly the dilemma. I'm worried about things going wrong with the car sitting in a container at the docks through winter. On the other hand I don't want to reorder now because I dont think it'll come by the end of Feb.

I want my car asap like everyone else but since it's a cash purchase I do need till Feb/march to raise the funds. Perhaps when it went to Bw confirmed the dealer put in a cheeky order for my spec and will let this one come and sell it on. I guess if I see one for sale with my spec in decmber id be suspicious.

What do you think are the possible pit falls of keeping it in the container from mid December to mid feb?

The dealer willl not sell your car without your agreement.

It will be kept outdoors in a compound most likely (unless the dealer has covered storage - most don't), Downside - in reality - probably not that much really but it would just not feel right if its was my custom built vehicle....

I think a lot of dealers ordered  GTI's and GTD's without agreements in place, they'll be able to sell them anyway.
I wouldn't want it sitting in a container for a few winter months.
Let them sell it and re order I would say

Your dealer should be able to hold the car until you want it. I ordered mine on the 7th of October ready for March and my dealer agreed to hold it until then. I've now got a BW50 so it should be in the country in Janaury. Depending when it comes I might choose to have it early. My dealer did the same for me with my Mk6, they had it in there own storage for about 2 months.

I doubt it would be in a 'container' as such - far more likely in open storage behind the showroom.....

Was it stored indoors or outdoors? Did you run into any problems after delivery directly related to it sitting around for 2 months?

A bit of both as the dealer has a warehouse compound they use, mainly for the range rovers etc. It was outside when it got moved to the vw dealership. I had no problems with it all. It's only gone back for servicing that's it!
