Just bought my wife a 2011 GTD + DSG to replace a Focus Ghia TDCI with 122,000 miles (possibly the most solid & reliable motor we ever owned from 11,000 miles) and am blown away by the performance & driving experience.
She had a couple of Golfs many years ago, nothing special, but the GTD incredibly just about matches my old Mk2 MR2 for oomph but with loads more torque of course.
Mine is a high revvving Honda S2000 very exciting and lively in the wet and I wouldn't swap but really enjoying a totally new driving experience with the Golf's flappy paddles and growly exhaust.
