daft question but I have had my gtd a month and dont think that the auto hold comes on unless I hit the break pedal...am I right .

just watching the above video and says it automatically comes on when the vehicle stops..but you dont need to use the brake all the time to get the car to stop...so I am unsure

I've only driven a MK7 Manual 1.6 Diesel which has this and will explain how it worked for me.

When I came to a stand still for traffic lights or something similar, if I put the car in neutral, and foot off the clutch, usually the stop start would kick in, but you would also get the auto-hold on (you should see a green light on the MFD).

When you then slip the car back in gear, and lift the clutch and accelerate, in will then release the auto hold automatically

I just tap my brake for it to come on at the end of braking. Its apparently done on the pressure from the discs

Does the GTi have lane assist? Not seen this yet or sure if it's even activated (or how to) in my GTi ?

Also, the rain sensor? Can't see that either? Nor the traffic sign recognition. Only done about 200 miles so still trying to figure it all out. Fun without a manual (German version came with car!).

Fair - that makes sense then. I guess no rain sensor either? Can't seem to see any 'auto' options on my wiper controls!

Yes it does mate, i thought the same as it doesn't actually say auto. Push stalk up once then you can use the switch on top to adjust sensitivity (select one of the the four)
