Are these brakes 312mm??
« on: 18 November 2013, 17:36 »
Hey all,
I managed to get these off a chap who tells me they are from a Mk1 Audi TT, Which after asking you guys and checking the interweb I found that all Audi TT's had minimum setups of 312mm brakes except the 3.2 Q which has the R32 brakes.

Well they have turned up today and I gave them a small cleanup, But I plan to get them fully repainted etc before fitting along with new discs and new pads. Oh and them dam splash guards.

BUT...

With my current luck I was hoping that someone could help confirm that they are indeed for the 312mm setup because Otherwise before I refurbish them i'll send them back.

I could not find any part numbers to Google on them and the numbers on them don't make any sense to me.
Anyone able to help with the following questions please?

  • Are they for 312mm discs?
  • Why do they have marked "1" & "2" on them?

You already have a gti don't you? If so you don't need the calipers...your existing ones will fit 312mm discs, it's the carriers that you need

Arhhhhh cool, Was thinking that but also thought this would be a great opportunity to put nicely painted replacements on  :smug:

The calipers will be exactly the same as the ones you have. It's the carriers that position the caliper further away from the centre of the hub and allow you to use a bigger disc. It's the carriers that you need, not the calipers (as above). Send these back, paint your own, and use the money to buy some carriers and discs

I think they are the carriers for 288mm discs. Check the part numbers on them

I cannot see any part numbers on them I have been told they are from an audi tt which would make them 312mm but finding it hard to verify :(

Can you pull your wheel off and have a look at the carriers on the car and the ones in the pictures.

get a tape measure out, measure distance from centre of hub to edge of carrier thats on car.

then measure the size of the carrier on the car

measure the size of the new carrier and work it out
