40mm offset too so clear the brakes and sit better in the arches. Looks good, got to be safer and I like the car colour as well!

Are these the Broolkyns? In here they come as standard. 7.5 Jx17, isn't it? The offset is 49 I think...

Excuse my ignorance, but could anybody explain the rim parameters in addition to the likes of say 17x7.5j i.e "offset" etc.

No, if you check the link you can see they're Borbet alloys, CC might be their model designation

If you're going 7.5 x 17 assuming you've got the PP brakes you'll need somewhere between about ET51 and ET41 as a very educated guess. If going for aftermarket wheels make sure they don't have a very curved spoke design that might foul the brake calliper.
Most OEM Golf, Passat, Scirocco, Touran etc wheels will fit ok; Passat and Scirocco wheels will have a much lower offset so you'd need to be careful if you're using snow chains as well.

I like the look of that a lot! The colour is fantastic and I really like the all silver wheels. In my opinion they look so much cleaner than the black inners of the Austins. I do love the Austins though, but they look superb!
MK7 GTI 3-Door DSG, Tornado Red, Discover Nav, Winter Pack, ACC, Keyless Go, Reversing Camera, Service Pack... Ordered 28th Oct... Collected 1st March!

Tungsten Silver, I preferred it to the lighter Reflex, looks very good in the sun - if we ever get any. Does show the dirt a little more than the reflex I had on my last car but I can live with that.

They are lightweight 17inch Borbets - German make, TUV approved for the Golf, offset is 40mm - near as dammit the same as the Austins.

If you go for secondhand VAG/Audi wheels you need to be sure the offset will allow the wheels to clear the 340mm PP brake calipers.  For standard GTi you can go down to 16s for winters as they will clear standard 312mm brake calipers
