New exhaust
« on: 17 November 2013, 10:38 »
Yesterday spoke to a guy called tony banks who is based in Leeds, he makes exhaust systems for any car, quoted me for a full system with sports cat, choice of 84 exhaust trims, and lifetime guarantee that you can pass on to whoever you sell your car to, said there is a chance of adding up to 20-25bhp all for £599! What do you guys think, has anyone heard of this guys work? Cheers

was he recommended? If not then I'd have to see examples of past work. that said, you can't beat a custom system especially with that kind of guarantee.

20-25 BHP of a gain?
Dreamer.

You'll get NO gain out of an exhaust on a standard map...even on a basic remap the exhaust gives you NOTHING.
Maybe if you go for more power...so called 'Stage 2' maps where you are pushing the engine, replacing the Cat with a free flow version, or fitting a bigger downpipe, you MAY see gains, but only because it can make better use of the additional gas flow available.

But on a standard Golf...you'll see no gain at all by fitting an exhaust.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

This ^

I bought an exhaust for my Mk5 GT from Nige and it's a lovely piece of kit.
Compared to the VWR/Milltek on my Mk6 GTI, the BCS system is FAR better made and cheaper.
Highly recommended.

Have been looking at exhausts and really want to keep the sound down unless absolutely going for it,how would you compare the likes of the miltek which seems to be quietest I've seen to the BCS

Hi there,
The system is our variable tone and boost actuated design, so you get a larger throw between quiet and loud. However, when the car is not boosting, on tickover, just pottering around or cruising which is probably 80% of the time, the exhaust note is just marginally above the stock GTi sound - however, when the boost starts to grow the exhaust note chages directly in proportion to the demand for power to the point where the centre silencer is completely bypassed, creating a completely unique combination of exhaust sounds.
This linear power delivery also dramatically benefits the low down torque.
You could say that it is Jeckyl and Hyde in nature, or perhaps two for the price of one, or to have your cake and eat it...
At this point I'm running out of metaphors to describe it other than to say it is addictive once experienced.
Cheers
