Pickup or Delivery??
« on: 16 November 2013, 17:24 »
Ordered my new GTI from Drivethedeal and although I got a good deal compared to my local Volkswagen dealer the garage is in Kent. Now for me that is a 4h30m drive which for the deal I got is not worth arguing over, however the dealer has offered to deliver the car to me or I can pay extra to have it delivered on a low loader.  Has anyone had there GTI delivered on a loader and what is the cost usually?  Obviously if I get it delivered and there is anything wrong with it then I am a bit stuck as I will not have gone through the whole getting to know the car and what it can do with the dealer beforehand. What do people reckon??

A few years ago I used a broker called jamjar to purchase my mk5 golf. If memory serves me correct it cost me £250 to have it delivered on a low loader up to Scotland. Theres no way I was having some other person rag my new motor up the motorway and I didn't have time to collect

If it is the same dealer that DTD use for the the VW Up!.  I know some have picked the car up and the dealer has paid for their journey there. Train etc?  Worth asking.

Be a nice drive back to get used to your car as well.  Perhaps tie it in with a night in Kent ?

Ordered 06/01/14.  5DR GTD DSG, Red. Park Assist | Rear Camera | Keyless entry | Dynaudio | Winter Pack | Pro Nav.

No question about it - pick it up yourself. Why would you want someoene elst to have the pleasure of collecting your car at the dealer, driving it for four hours plus and all you do is have the less pleasurable experience of taking the keys to a filthy car off the driver. If you are really unlucky he might even run it through the car wash just before he arrives so its nice and clean (and scratched for you)... no contest!

Go and pick it up yourself. I traveled down to a dealer in Kent to pick up mine a few weeks ago. However I did sound them out for a cost to deliver on a single vehicle transporter - £197.  Not a bad price but this time I told myself I was going to pick up in person. So I bought a one way train ticket and drove the car home. They even threw in a full tank of fuel. Much nicer experience.

Yes - for me it would be a no brainer, pick it up yourself. I would not want somebody else to drive the car for potentially several  hundred miles before me.  It may be inconvenient but more exciting picking it up yourself.
