Sorry buddy, of course the GTI is a great car and if I could justify the fuel costs that's what I would have gone for. Its just when he was talking about an evoque I assumed he had money for an R. I take back my old hat comment as that was stupid.

No need for an apology pal . I'm sure Jimble could probably afford an R given that he added every option known to man onto his GTI

Just fyi, yes i can afford an R as it's a very similar price to my GTI with +- a few options, the Evoque on the other hand, once i've added a few options to a 4wd manual pure tech it gets a bit daft! I test drove a 2.2SD4 Dynamic which was a very nice place to sit and very nice to look at but had no guts to go with it's appearance imo, i know it's a different beast to the Golf but since i'll never take it off road then all the terrain response stuff would be wasted. Anyway it all depends what the dealer says tommorrow?? :undecided:

I will probably get flamed for this - but the Evoque to me has a more 'feminine' look about it (in contrast to say the Sport) - all the ones I have seen (and the only one I have been in) were driven by women. The Golf R is, in contrast, much more masculine in its looks and persona - in my opinion of course!

Although according to the GTI PP road test in Decembers VW Driver, the 19's are best left alone and the money spent on DCC instead.

I agree 100% with this - every person I know that has an Evoque is a girl; everyone I know who has a RR is a bloke.  They look very girlie IMO (although I have driven one and they are lovely motors, but not a patch on a proper RR).

In the way that TT's are now such a girly car.  These days, It's rare to see a guy behind the wheel of one.  Must be why many ex TT boys are moving into gti's/R's

Just a stop gap until the mk3 comes out pal. .  In all seriousness the GTI is a cracking car and it's got the current TT beaten in all areas except for one and that's looks. The TT is still one of the nicest looking cars out of any on the road IMO.

You won't find many TTS or RS owners swapping for a GTI/R

So my GTI came back from the bodyshop yesterday after having a couple of paint issues sorted, the main of which was a tiny paint inclusion on the O/S A pillar, almost like someone had dipped an artist brush in it when it was wet which created a little peak? Anyways i turned up to check it over and the A pillar looked ok, however the roofline and C pillar had also been painted! god knows why but the finish was horendous! I've subsequently started the ball rolling to reject the car. i'm waiting for a call from my dealer on monday to discuss what happens next but i don't know what car to get, or do i?? :smug:

M135i, come over and drive ours
