GTI Rejected, now what??
« on: 16 November 2013, 13:46 »
So my GTI came back from the bodyshop yesterday after having a couple of paint issues sorted, the main of which was a tiny paint inclusion on the O/S A pillar, almost like someone had dipped an artist brush in it when it was wet which created a little peak? Anyways i turned up to check it over and the A pillar looked ok, however the roofline and C pillar had also been painted! god knows why but the finish was horendous! I've subsequently started the ball rolling to reject the car. i'm waiting for a call from my dealer on monday to discuss what happens next but i don't know what car to get, or do i?? :smug:

Sorry to hear about all the issues your having Jimble. There are certainly a few options out there just now, the five obvious probably being:-

Golf R
135i
235i
S3
GTI - manual this time

The golf R does look lovely but is it going to have the same minor nigles as the GTI. I suppose only time will tell. Perhaps you have just been very unlucky but obviously a big let down for you was the DSG box and with a manual you may have felt differently.

Good God!

Speechless!

I'd let the dust settle a bit James and then see what you feel like in a week or two.

At least now you know what you DON'T like in what you originally specced so you can look at other things this time round. Broaden your horizons and see if you still end up back in a VW.

That's not good at all James. I hate having any paintwork done if it's not at my trusted bodyshop. VW's so called approved bodyshop made a right mess of my old Passat when it went in for rusty wings, but that was an old car, so I put up with their second attempt until I sold it.

If I was in your shoes, I'd get your money back, and buy something cheaper that's not encumbered with finance to ride around in over the winter. Something like a Mk5 GT TDI? Then you will have all the time you want to decide what to buy next, if anything at all. It's quite liberating having an older car and once you have detailed it so that it shines like a new one, you might decide to keep it. Or put the money into extending your house instead. I know someone that can produce the plans for you.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

If you cancel made but still like the gti then for me its got to be an R. They might even give you a deal with them supplying you with a poor car.

And don't forget to NOT opt for an auto..! Can you just reject it because it wasn't what it should be with issues etc and make the dealership buy you a new one? With a manual? It won't cost you a thing. Instead of the DSG you could go for more of other options. If you order now, you'll get it rather fast and some teething/niggles would be cured...

Sounds like you've really disliked the car from day 1 and this is the opportunity you are looking for to get shot of it. Personally I think the grounds for rejection are flimsy at best so I hope for your sake that your dealer / VW UK are feeling in a generous mood!

Sounds like a hailstorm damaged car that was not sold as one, and if so, those who did go through with orders in knowledge of, should be quite concerned.

Even if not, then obviously still unacceptable and would dent my confidence badly in the car, particularly as you been stating things that others are not overly experience either, sounding like the perennial Friday car.

I really like the DSG, it does not behave how you stated yours does but I am new to it and not had anything else to compare to unlike self so my thinking would be Golf R manual in Blue a car I would personally love.

But we only making comments this is going to be a personal gut decision come end of and you need more facts from dealer before finalise. Be interested in what they say and what you decide but we all wish it turns out well as all have a good idea to what a pain and disappointment it must be.

Flimsy? They repainted way more of the car than was necessary and to an extremely poor standard! I'd already said in the other post that if it was ok then i'd hang on to it, your right in that i wasn't 100% happy with this car from day 1 but for the most part that was my fault, you make your bed you lie in it but if your 33k Golf GTI had been painted a slightly different colour and you could easily see finger prints under the laquer would you be happy? The dealership have been excellent thoughout and it won't put me off another one from them, the brand manager actually said to me that i was rejecting it before i did after he'd seen the problem, even he couldn't undersatnd why so much had been painted but agreed it was obvious once pointed out. I'm glad your happy with yours though.

Thanks mate, not sure if it's a hailsto car as it was built after that but could well be a friday car! Having spoken to one of the techs, he said that my issue with inconsistent pulling away after stop/start could've been that when you come to a stop sharpish the car doesn't have 1st gear ready for when you restart but if you come to a gentle stop then it's all set with 1st when your ready? I thought that sounded feasable but i haven't had the car back yet/if at all so who knows?
