Xmas deliveries...
« on: 16 November 2013, 00:09 »
Seems like a lot of people here are expecting cars mid to late December. How many are goint to put off registration until January in order to have a '2014' car? I guess some people just want to get theirs asap?

Hi, I'm collecting mine hopefully mid December. It makes little or no difference if you collect in Dec or Jan.
Waiting for March 1st to get the 14 plate can help the residuals but only very slightly.

My experience and looking at price guides tends to suggest your car will be worth between £1k- £1,500 more come trading time getting a 14 car. Might be worth a little wait...

The question came in to my mind as my current car was registered on 4/1/12. So when I come to sell next spring the ad will read "2012 VW Scirocco 170 TDI" - four days makes a big difference in this case I think....

If you want to wait 2-3 months for the 14 plate that is a option to get a bit back on resale.
The car itself will be a MY2014 car regardless of when it's registered as MY designations usually overlap.
I rather not have my car sat about while my current car loses value, so it depends which way you look at it.

I see you point and I'm sure you want to get your hands on it ASAP. If the car is registered 020114 it will be worth approx £1k more come trade in time than if it was registered on 31/12/13. Crazy I know but that's how it seems to work..

since I saved £3934 off list I guess I'm comfortable taking the car ASAP rather than waiting 2-3 weeks for Jan registration.
I do about 500 miles per week, could reduce my current car resale value by £500 as a guess.

Fair point then - swings and arounds really and you get your new car to play with sooner :-)

There isn't that big a value jump between Dec 13 (63) and Jan14 (63) - £300 maybe, no-one cares about the year as much as the plate. There will be a bigger jump at plate time Feb 14 (63) to Mar 14 (14) will see about a grand. For every other month between plates there is about £300 per month.

I saw this month to month change in my Scirocco in the Glass' and Parker guides in the 23 weeks I waited for my GTD from ordering. Aug 13 to Sep 13 saw the biggest dip, almost 40% of the whole 6 months depreciation between plates occurs in the month before a plate change, the rest is pretty incremental.
