Just got my misses car back from its service....,
« on: 15 November 2013, 09:26 »
Hey guys want to pick your brains if I may? Sorry if this is in the wrong place but she's going home in an hour and she's hoping I can look before she goes.

Anyway she's got a 1.4 tdci ford friesta she just had it serviced at in and out
She had the following..
# Oil
# oil filter
# air filter
# pollen filter
And they checked many things for her. We only used them because she's got full service history and wanted the stamp

The problem is now when we turn on the blowers there is a strong smell of deisel in the car any ideas?

Did they change the diesel filter if so could have had some leak causing this smell.

Don't think so mate I've just checked that the pollen filter was put in correctly it was air filter looks fine there is a small leak of oil by the turbo but that's always been there

If they changed all other filters then they probably did diesel filter also and know they can be problematic and sometimes require alot of bleeding to get them running again.

Yeh most diesels can be like that and if that was the case that would be the smell of diesel as the bleeding process could cause some over spill.

These fords can be worse than others as the return feed goes back through the filter. And they are located on the bulkhead so any spillage would certainly be smelled inside.

We do this  air con regas at work you put air con on full blast put can in your car let it off auto sparys goes into the heating/air-con system making it smell nice all the time this could be worth a try if the smells doesn't go away as it makes the pollen filter smell nice.

Probably have done the fuel filter. I always just give it a good clean up after and clean the engine bay and spray nice smelling silicone dressing on the plastics so it always smells nice. :)

Where all my moneys went.

some of the fords can be a twerp to bleed as said  fuel tends to soack into the sound proofing and it stinks for varying lengths of time.

ther are a couple of ways of avoiding it tho

easy pipkey way is remove the filter houseing to tank return pipe   and clip a length of old line on thats going way from car / van to a bucket  so the diesel and air is let out there so no spillage in the engine bay,  then pressuries the fuel tank slightly with an air line to push diesel through the system,  the return line can then be refitted and it'll start first turn of key with no further bleeding
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
