Try a tow a loaded van with a 16v then jump in a VR and you'll see the difference in the torque.

Not exactly my friend. In certain areas the 16v will out perform the Vr if set up right. Vr is only good for the sound and for motorway driving nothing else.

Having never driven either a 16v or VR I'd guess the 16v is the better drive as there's less weight over the front axle surely aiding cornering.
