My biggest gripe is when I plug my phone in and it starts to play music from it despite me listening to the radio.

Wish I could disable that.

Ok mine (quite minor really)

1. No ability to show contacts list in the MFD (have to use the touch screen)
2. Very limited number of phones seem to be about to show contact photos
3. Lower door reflectors should have been active lights like on audi (especially as they already exist in the  VW parts bin).
4. Navigation maps just don't seem to be as clear as my old RNS-510 (roads too thin if you know what I mean)
5. Colour MFD doesn't really show anything in colour and seems a missed opportunity.
6. Double LED DRL's would have been nice.
7. No half alcantera option for the UK
8. Doesn't show climate settings on touchscreen as the RNS-510 did (all passengers thought that was cool)
9. MPG OKish but no where near advertised

Other than that I'm pretty happy. DSG is perfect for me and none of the issues that have been mentioned. Paintwork perfect and general fit and finish excellent (no squeaks or rattles).

Know what you mean regarding 7 Norbeck. Apart from the red doors/boot when they're open it might as well be a black and white display.

Thought I saw somewhere that if you press the setup button on the climate control this brings up the settings on the display?  Don't have mine yet so can't confirm this though so feel free to correct if I've got this wrong

1) Stop/Start cutting the engine off when you go to reverse into a parking space (Car cuts off when you stop then starts again when you select reverse)
2) Slow unless you toe it!?
3) Abysmal MPG even driving Eco - 28 Average
4) Sounds like a casino machine and wakes up the entire street if you open the door with key in ignition.
5) Throws you forward when changing from 2nd to 1st (DSG)
6) Paddles sometimes not changing gear when you press them and ignoring you instead.

The few things I've discovered in the two weeks I've owned it are....

Bad buffering (that repetitive thud that hurts your ears) when only the drivers window is all the way down

Rattle from the rear. Not taken it to dealers yet as I will let it settle

Oh lastly..... The mpg, I'm getting 30mpg out of mine. Hoping for more when its run in a little. I always have it in sport mode, Eco mode is terrible.

Other than that I love it.

FYI you can get the aircon/climate in the screen, can't remember how though! Think you press the setup button.

Don't all cars do that? In a 5 door you can drop the rear window a smidge to let the air out, therefore no buffeting. My Mk2 does it with the sunroof open. I need to drop the windows a touch to stop it.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I am sorry to hear of others niggles.

I am pleased to report in 2,000 miles of driving since picking up the GTI on the 12th October I have experienced none of them.

Touch wood!

Can't say I've ever noticed it on any car I've owned! Only when I've been a passenger in the rear of a car.

Not too many complaints from me.

1. The Throttle response which I keep banging on about (which was also a bit rubbish on the mk5 and mk6)

2. The 258 lb ft of torque is a little too subtle for my liking - the GTI is supposed to be a FUN car, leave the dullness to the lesser models and make the GTI a bit more tactile, VW

3. The seat sliding mechanism on the 3 door. I admit I went 3 door purely for looks and as a family we manage ok with two teenage sons in our other car which also has 3 doors BUT the Golf for some reason seems much harder to get into the back of (yes, stop shaking your heads, I know I should've tested one out before ordering but there weren't any in the country as far as I could see at the time). I find the seats in mine really stiff to slide forward and back. The ratchet mechanism in my last 3 door Golf GTI which was a mk4 was far superior.

aside from those odd niggles I love most of the car. It has loads of awesome features.

Oh, I could moan a bit about how hard the Austins are to clean properly without spending ages but that's nothing really.
And a slight niggle is that there's nowhere to put the service book folder if you have anything else in the glove box.

Unlike Jimble I find the PP brakes quite good. Not as snatchy as the mk6 brakes.
And I have a manual car and can't complain about the gear changes etc as they're down to me!!! I love the gear knob though.
And I don't have DCC and find the ride very acceptable for a sporty hatchback that drives so sharply.

In fact two of the things I complain about above are easy to remedy (at cost) so it just leaves the seats!
