Reversing Camera - Now discontinued?

Hmmm, just spoke to my dealer (about something completely unrelated) and mentioned this thread to him , specifically the bit about if you add the camera on now, the whole of your order gets recalculated at the new price - he said poppycock - only the items ordered after the fact attract the new price, the basic car price if ordered before the price increase stays the same ?

Not sure if this changes from dealer to dealer and it's just a way to either increase revenue or dissuade you from changing your order ?

Well I was told adding the sat nav on, he would need to do a new PCP quote.

As all the cars have now gone up 1%, he couldn't do a PCP quote with the old prices.

If this isn't the case, I'd very much like to know as I'll probably add the nav onto the options list.

Phil, they are just numbers, the price anyone pays for these cars is hugely variable anyway (from list to 12% off or whatnot) so list price rarely has anything to do with a PCP quote - its about your agreed price and how much of it you are financing that are the key issues.... or just tell him you will just get the finance elsewhere, that will change his stance...

Oh and the only things that affect a PCP quote are APR, over how long, final balloon payment and obviously how much you are financing (which isintself a product of the agreed cost and how much deposit you are putting in. You can get a very good idea from the VW website as it now has a finance calculator.

No they won't - the reason they withdrew it over the summer was because the cameras were in short supply and they could only rely on getting enough for orders placed before July. Now the supply problems are solved its available again without delays.

I don't think you kind of get what I meant - if there are further supply problems (the OP says his dealer has told him it's discontinued/not available) then we must wonder what the reason is for it being discontinued>

Dealer is definitely talking sh!te. An altered order just pays the new price on the altered options, they don't need to cancel an order and start again. They can mess about on the finance calculator too. If the newer car price is £400 more than yours for example, they could just put in new prices and that they've given you £400 discount or given you £400 more for your part ex value. Loads of ways to get the same "cost to change" in the finance calculator.

What Monkeyhanger says.... and you can do your own finance quote on a new car anyway - just go on the VW website new car configurator. Go through to get the car you want and then click on 'get finance quote' at the summary page.

Once you are on it it does not really matter what the total for the car is (as long as its at least what you will be paying and not less) - the trick is you then adjust the amount of deposit in the deposit box so that the 'amount financed' reflects the amount that you will actually need to finance on your car (taking account of whatever deposit you will pay of course) - and hey presto - your repayments are revealed!

Hmm. Now I'm not sure whether to go back and challenge the dealer and ask him to request that it's added to my spec or not? Or at least confirm from what date the rear view camera was discontinued...

I'm not too worried about the price of the option as £165 will have only risen a couple of quid so i'll see what I can figure out with them.

I would like it fitted, but now I'm thinking it's this or Park Assist??

Considering the spec on your car already, whats £165? This is an option which was on the top of my list.

I don't like sensors as I have backed a car into a tiny brick wall. Sensors were still bleeping as if to say's the room but it couldn't detect the low down object. By having the camera to reverse, I have the piece of mind.

Park assist is a bit of a gimmick IMO. Since driving, I've probably only parallel parked once. If I was doing this day to day, I might look at it, but I don't need it. And I like reversing into a spot dead quick and perfectly in the lines when you see people giving it about 5 attempts.

And FYI regarding the dealer. Just tell him to add it on. Say you've got a buddy who works for VW and says the option is back on. If that doesn't work, use the below and tell him to get his manager to check their VW logon.
