Reversing Camera - Now discontinued?

Hi Guys,

I called my dealer last week to add a reversing camera to my order for a GTI (only placed at the end of Oct so nowhere near being built yet) had a call back yesterday informing me that he'd tried to add it, but it's now discontinued and not available to select as an option.

Has anybody else heard this? I know there was a problem a while back but I thought it had been resolved and reintroduced?

Nothing on Volkswagen desktop.

It was discounted a few months back, but was available to be selected again back in October.

Just to warn you, well at least this was what my dealer told me when I asked about adding the Nav on, it will cost more than just the £165 option, as if you amend you order you're not price protected so will get charged another 1%

Yes - the advice you got was 'factor brunt' - the camera was unavailable from July this year and has just become available again - about two or three weeks ago (to the annoyance of people who wanted one and ordered post July).

The reason was apparantly shortage of supplies of the camera unit.

Right I see. I'm not too bothered about it to be honest, especially considering what Phil 117 mentions about the price increase.

I wonder if its something that could be retro-fitted at a later date in the same way there are loads of companies offering OEM retrofits for the RNS510 in the Mk5/6 generations?

The badge with the camera in is about £300 I think, the retrofit is a big job too.  I would forget the camera if I were you, how often do you drive backwards anyway?

I think the OEM kit comes in at over £500 and as mentioned needs a lot of work and ripping the car apart.
As mentioned, if you change any orders that were placed pre November 1st, you will get stung with the 1% price increase.

Haha in that case I think I'll forget it! I'm happy with all the other options I just thought that the gadget factor of the camera was well worth £165.

You can only add something to your order if your build week has not been confirmed. Add additional options can delay your order. Remember you will have to pay 1% more on your total order too.

No they won't - the reason they withdrew it over the summer was because the cameras were in short supply and they could only rely on getting enough for orders placed before July. Now the supply problems are solved its available again without delays.
