First cut is the deepest
« on: 10 November 2013, 16:59 »
While giving my GTD its first wash ever I noticed the following:

Missing paint?  I've literally no idea how this has happened.  Pick up was on Weds but I checked pretty thoroughly and didn't notice anything.  Mind you, it was raining at the time and the car was in the dealers pound for a couple of weeks before collection.  I guess this could have happened anywhere though (I have been mega careful parking by no other cars etc).

Should I nab some touch up paint or leave?

oh Dippy–x, that's awful. Trying to work out what the heck could have done that… a supermarket trolley?

I would be taking that straight back to the dealership. That's looks pretty bad to me mate. Just argue that this is the first proper time you have had to check the car and you've noticed these marks. I would get your dealer to deal with that pronto.

I cant work it out either. There are no dents or any other marks other than those highlighted.

Thanks.  I'll touch base with them tomorrow and see what they say...

It's just to the left and below the rear number plate.  I had a long drive back up the road after collecting and it has just been caked in grit/rain/dirt since (it was raining heavy on the way up) so it's hard to say if it was there from the beginning.

One thought…. if it was done after you took delivery, you would have noticed the damage, as it would have been noticeable i.e.: taken the layer of dirt & the paint off at the same time. Whereas, because you hadn't spotted it until you washed it for the first time, could indicate it was there before you picked it up?
Really, the dealers should have had the car inside & dry, so you could inspect the paintwork. Not saying it's suspicious, but just makes you wary.

That's a very good point Ginagee.  Didn't think of that.  That's some good logic work there

My bet is in transportation -either rail or boat. Could be rubbing marks from a tie down strap or another car manoeuvred too close.

Don't see how else that damage could be done to the lower edge especially. If it was hit by another car, surely the damage would be on the vertical surfaces, not the lower edges ?
