As per title I'm unable to unlock the rear passenger side door on my MK5 Jetta. The door was playing up a bit few weeks ago and wasn't unlocking properly but back then if I pressed the Unlock button on the remote a few more times and the door unlocked but now it stopped working completely.

I looked up this issue on-line and looks like MK4's were really plagued by this issue and from what I can gather some MK5's still suffers from doggy locks. To make matters worse I have child lock enabled on rear doors so can't even open it from inside.

If it helps to identify the culprit, when I unlock the car I can hear two clicks coming from the faulty door lock. I briefly seen something mentioned in regards two clicks elsewhere but cannot remember what it was.

I had my car booked in with the local VW dealer (bought 3 cars from them over the last 6 years) earlier this week but when I took my car over they asked me to pay £87 even before I managed to hand my keys over. Cancelled my appointment on the spot.

I'm not really much wiser after looking up this issue on the web so can anyone help with this and advise me if this is something I could fix myself? Cannot be gassed to pay VW rates to fix something that is potentially a manufacturing defect to start with.

Going to be a new lock unit. To get it open all you can do is bang the door from the outside in the lock area, whilst unlocking/locking the doors off the remote. Eventually it will catch it and open..

Sorry to hi-jack, but my drivers door suffers a similar problem however I can unlock it (every time so far) but putting the key in and manually unlocking it. Quite amusing when I do that without using the remote and the alarm decides to go off... Real good look when I'm in trackies and have a cap on stood next to a sport hatchback screaming in fear.

Anyway, is it worth changing locks or should I just leave it as to be honest, I don't want to mess with something like door locks unless I need to...

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!
