Rear view camera or park assist?
« on: 09 November 2013, 16:45 »
Hi - been visiting for a while as have been considering a GTD. The arrival of a demonstrator GTD yesterday for the weekend has swung the choice between a GTD and an A3 S Line TDI 150 - in favour of the GTD of course! Even though the demo car is massively specced up I'm being very restrained as the standard car comes with pretty much everything I need, so I've decided on a pure white 5 door with winter pack (purely for the heated seats).

I'm also tempted by either park assist (which I have on my current car and use occasionally) or the rear view camera. Any thoughts one which one is best would be welcome in helping me make a decision (I'm guessing it's pretty pointless to have both).

Cheers.

Hard to say for sure as they are both gimmicky.

As you have park assist at the moment - would you miss it if you no longer had it?  The reverse cam does get alot more use...

Hi & welcome.

I have both on my mk6 GTD. I think I might of only used park assist twice since I got it so don't really use it myself. I find the reversing camera very helpful and can recommend it. I've got both options on order with the mk7 mainly for when other people use my car it doesn't come back damaged

Well it's Ford's park assist so it rarely works! I could live without it, but both are so cheap I almost feel like I have to get one of them as an affordable gimmick! I'm used to heavily hitting options lists but really am struggling to justify much extra on the GTD.

Cheers. The car you've got on order seems to be the same spec as the GTD demo I've got now (except for the engine of course). Stunning car - wish I could go with all those options but would kill me on company car tax / contribution!

I think I'd get more use out of the camera so suspect I'll go with that.

Lew 321, I see you have opted for Winter PAck with leather and the standard Xenons (that come with headlight washers and low washer bottle warning light). As the leather seats are heated as standard is it the case that all you are getting with the WP is heated washer jets?

I would drop the winter pack if you have leather seats on order!

I'm sure the new GTD is stunning. I've been really impressed with mine which was my first VW. I was going to get another GTD but test drove the GTI and changed my mind. Just got to find extra money to fill it up.

I know winter pack with leather is a waste of money when you look at it as an item. I had it on my mk6 with xenons so decided to do the same. I must be bonkers for doing it twice

Especially as you can get the parts for less than £50. It's like cruise control on vauxhalls. Most of them only need the stalk and a bit of time with tech2, costs a total of £60 to retrofit a £200 option.
