Thanks chaps.  So my man can do it for £250 mates rates.  Which isn't too bad.  But it also means I'm going to get her to pay for at least half of it.  Pay the piper and all that.  Better than expected but its still £250 just before Xmas - plus more importantly my car has a dent in it

Although, I think I might get the missus to have a chat with her #pussy

Bloody hell, I had to do a double take with that last sentence

You’re doing her a favour by getting it done for £250 – make her pay for the lot, why should her irresponsible actions leave you out of pocket? Send your missus round to collect!

I would say though that you might want to get a genuine written quote from elsewhere for the proper going rate just to demonstrate that you doing the mates rates way is saving money - she might accuse you of trying to rip her off without proof of the repair’s “worth” if it’s an £80 job in her mind.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I have a written quote.  If she doesn't think that's acceptable then she can go through her insurance!  She drives a Vauxhall mpv - she clearly knows nothing about cars   And I'm sure the most action that car sees is a trip to tescos twice a week

Get her to pay otherwise she will never learn.

It's just frustrating how others don't even care. It's when adult just opens it at full pelt and walks off. Tossers.

And edit from me. If that was my car, I'm sure you're mate can do it fine, but I'd be getting a quote from a VW approved centre and get a non discounted quoted and serve that up to her.

Harsh, but it will sure as hell make her not do it again.

Yeah, I'd make her pay for the whole lot as she's getting a cheap deal as your mate is doing it. I don't see why you have to pay for her careless actions. I've had this happen to me a couple of times and it is infuriating.

In order of f7cked-off-ness:

1 The dent
2 The fact she didn't even offer to pay even some of the repair
3 The sob story
4 The 'you have a new car so you can afford it' attitude
5 The fact she didn't get her child to even apologise
6 The fact she lets her 5 year old open the door unassisted

  In fact, they all f7ck me off!

I'll be getting her to pay I think.  Thanks all!

PS Yeah if I had got a VW approved quote then it would be at least double that - which I'll do if she quibbles this quote.

Similar thing happened to me a few cars ago. Clueless mother with young kids and no control.

I got a quote for repair £200ish from a dent repairer, she disputed the cost (she thought £50 should do it...) so I went through my insurance instead - it cost over £800 at a dealer.

I feel for you Matchboy, it is really infuriating.
