re jetting Weber 32 34 dmtl
« on: 05 November 2013, 19:34 »
Hi All

I've recenty bought a 2nd hand weber 32 34 dmtl that it jetted for a 1.8.

I need to re-jet it for 1.6.  I think i've found the right jet sizes for it on various sites / forums.

I just need to know how to rejet it, where are they, any tools / tip required.

Any other tips to get it running right first time.  Where do people normally position the manual choke cable.

Thanks in advance

Simon

Hi Simon,

You'll probably find that the carb will run 'ok' as it is, perhaps a little rich on wide open throttle.

But in the interest of fuel economy....
Changing the jets on a dmtl is pretty easy, whip the air cleaner off to expose the top of the carb, You'll see 4 brass 'screws' between the two venturi's, these are the jets. Unscrew and swap them 1 at a time to avoid a mix up. There's an idle jet for each venturi and a main jet for each venturi.
When you unscrew and pull out the brass screw, you'll see the jet attached to the end of it. the top half of the screw is the emulsification tube, be sure to give these a blow out from any bits of crap that may have got in there. The jet part simply pulls off the end of the screw.

Setting up the choke cable is also very easy. Fit the choke cable in the stock position, remove the little cover to the lower left of the steering wheel. Once you've got the cable in and through the bulkhead (there's a perfectly positioned grommet in the bulkhead above the clutch pedal), Put the choke lever in the fully off postion, ensure the carb choke is fully open, then just nip the cable up.

Thanks Ben, I'll take a look when it arrives.

Do you know which side is the Primary jet and which the secondary? or is it simply the side that you put the differing jets / idles on as per table below:

Unless it doesn't run right I'd leave the jets alone unless you can put it on a rolling road with someone who tunes carbs.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Weeeellll, fitted the weber and it runs like a dog.
Ordered some new jets from webcon, let's see if that helps it out.
Read about a million forums on it over the weekend and still none the wiser. :nerd:
Mot runs out this Friday and it's already failed the 1st test on emissions
Rant over.

an 1800 carb would not be bang on perfect on a 1600. but it wouldn't be noticeably rough either. I think you have been sold a dog im afraid. that's assuming everything else is set up right on engine?

Sounds like you may have other issues. Have you carefully checked the rubber carb flange for cracks?

Success!

The vac hose connecting the inlet manifold to the dizzy had perished on the underside. Changed it and the revs evened out the and it pulled great on a little whiz round.

Was just idling too high then - realised I'd set the accelerator cable too strongly, quick adjust and it's idling nicely.

Sorted.  Sometimes it's just the simple things.

Always great when that happens, kinda like thinking you've seized your engine due to a lack of oil, then discovering that it's just that you coasted too far with your headlights on on a cra**y battery and it sh*t out on you, so the car wouldn't re-start and wasn't seized at all....
