New MK2 Owner

I'm new to the MK2 section. I picked up my new GTi on Saturday and i am absolutely over the moon with her.

2 previous (inc VAG)
Leather with rear H/rests
BBs RA's

She only has 3 paint bubbles on the whole car, needs 4 new tyres, rear calliper, full service + MOT, and the drivers side sill needs replacing.

The bubbles on the paintwork, to have these removed how much should it cost to have this done? And if done properly should there be any evidence left?

Lowering is definately on the agenda, to begin with I've got to make sure its mechanically sound. It will now be treated like a proper GTi once I have broken her in gently over the next month. The previous owner is now in his 50's so the car hasn't been driven like GTi for a long time.

The budget has almost run out and it won't cover the suspension

Can a wheel polish be done at home? What does it entail?

If you after lowering it on a budget check out venom motorsport's suspension kits i cant recommend them highly enought!!

I went for the 55 mm drop then i decided to get 80mm which was too low, as my mark 2 had big bumpers and the splitter used to take a bit of a battering when going over bumpy roads!

I was gonna drop it 40mm using a bilstein. I'm not verly familiiar with Venom but happy to take referrals. The price definately looks appealing.

How stiff is the ride at 55mm?

erm, i will have to figure out how to put some pictures on. It depends what you want coz i wanted a combination of it looking better and handling better also, so a 55mm drop which was enough for me. It handled really well, was very impressed, managed to out run a 205 1.9 GTI with that suspension on in my 1.6 driver, on a twisty B road.

The shocks are 30% uprated and with the 55 mm drop it was quite stiff!

Spoke with mechanic last night to see what is going to need to doing to it for the MOT. Drivers sill is very lumpy and will need replacing. I need done and made good and have been wuoted in the region of £300 for parts, welding, make good the paint bubble on the drivers door, and respray everything below the door trim.

This will have to be done before the shocks, so they'll have to wait, but hey its nearly Christmas.

Getting set of tyres on Thursday and a full service after the weekend.

The wheel polish can be done, but on those wheels it will break your head. Why not buy some Golf G60 Steel Wheels (seems to be the in thing!) from a VW dealer? not to expensive, and get your tyres swapped over at your local tyre place for a few quid.
Assuming your alloys are 7jx15" of course.
A professional wheel refurb will be about £40 per wheel.
