New model Year - BW44 into BW 45
« on: 04 November 2013, 14:38 »
Hey

Just been on the phone to VW trying to find out what happens if you have a build week 44 car (ie. me) and it now being BW 45 and a new MY and my car is still showing as in build on the tracker (auto changed yesterday). Will it be build to BW 44 spec even though it is BW 45 or if it will be built to the new updates spec even though it is confirmed for build last week? Anyway there were clueless!! all they could tell me is my car is at stage 1 of 8 at production ie - not started.

The dilemma is I have a GTD on order with advance phone prep. Point one is the sound actuator is standard up to BW44 at no cost but as of BW 45 is an option at £255. Will I get this or not and will they retrofit it if not. Secondly will I now get the missing MDI that others have not got if they had the advance phone prep that is apparently amended for BW45 and forward with the new lightening cable.

Anyone have any more info or ever been a build week right at where they change the spec??

Cheers for any info.

Hi Neil, cant help too much but having spoken to Volkswagen this morning ALL cars which have not started build that have been ordered with Advanced Phone Kit will get MDI which is how it should have always been.
Its just that from BW45, we will get a iPhone5 cable I think.

I would guess that you will have to wait until your car arrives before you know for sure.
If you have a confirmed BW44, I would assume it would be built to BW44 spec regardless of when it actually gets build.
But who knows how the factory line works....

I suspect it is more likely, that the line will be changed to build the cars as per BW45 specs, so regardless of when it was scheduled to be built you should get the upgraded version... but then applying logic to VW Factories seems to be an exercise in futility

I rang them to clarify (my tweet), all cars that have been ordered with Advanced Phone Kit will now come with MDI fitted, like I said before, it should have come like that from day one.
Customers who have already got their cars without their MDI, there is a retro-fit in the works. No ETA yet.

I took delivery last Monday and my dealer has asked Vw about this but I sent a tweet earlier asking if they were going to retrofit and when. Fingers crossed they come through on it.

Cheers guys. So it's looking good for having the MDI included but pretty unknown about the sound actuator.

Anyone technically minded know if this would be hard to retrofit? Rather have the noise inside the car than outside and modifying the exhaust.

Cheers.

There are two sound actuators, one in the car for interior sounds(as far as I know this is and will remain standard) the other is in the exhaust and was not available on the GTD in the uk until now.

To retrofit you would need to replace the exhaust and add the control unit, probably some wiring as well.

Cheers rock. Just looked at the new price list and the option is listed as an exhaust sound actuator giving it a deep, sporty sound whilst in sport mode so hopefully the internal one will remain as standard otherwise I'm sure it would be mentioned on this option.
