On Piston Heads at the moment theres a thread about the new Golf R. Everyone is gobsmacked at how much it is, and if they were spending that money, they'd go for the S3 instead.

I really don't see what the appeal to Audi is. A lot of them are driven by idiots now days (not all of them, but a lot). I had a new A4 Allroad for a month a while back, and loved the engine it (It was the old GTD engine 170 PS), but apart from that I found it really poor. Every Audi I've taken in as a PX feels like a tank, heavy clutches, nothing great IMO.

Not tried a new A3 mind, but I find the dash on the VW better in pictures, I can't work the audi steering wheel scroll wheels as I have clammy hands. I think VW are getting more prestigious by the day. And plus, the VW is less likely to get pinched and people will let you out as well

I kind of agree here personally the shots of the S3 don't make it look great in my opinion, its just looks a bit plain. I know people say that about the R but I think it looks mint.

In Audi's defence I have never seen it in the flesh nor the R so this comment is purely based on internet pics.

The last time I felt this strongly about a car I bought my GTI so knowing what I'm like I will own an R but I just can't afford it new will be on the second hand market.

The only thing that worries me is the tensioner, hopefully no more horror stories on the MK7 but this would be the only thing to put me off....

Also love them or hate them but the quad exhausts look bad ass!

Iv'e never had a DSG either but to really enjoy this kind of performance I think the DSG is a wise option!

S3s are just Golf Rs with a awful suspension set up (probably why no 19s) and a lack of steering feel and enjoyed more from the passengers seat

i'm lead to believe you can also turn off the driver aids fully

i'm sure i could have saved a few quid more but brokers didn't real impress me and i get on well with my dealer

I know what I'd have. Side by side, I think it's the rear lights. Those LED indicators are the sh!t.
