The DSG would definitely be a tempter especially for launch control, 300bhp and 4wd of the line would be epic. The problem with me is i'd get the R and then a few months later they release the new TT and im wishing i had waited for that and so on. It's never ending

Yeah I think DSG would be the way forward; my rule is anything under 5.5/6 seconds 0-60 needs an auto to get the full use of the speed/power.

You say that, but I bet the new TTS or TTRS won't be out for at least a year ie. 2015 - so it'd be only fair to fill that gap with an R
@2013GTI so you basically specced every option known to man . I'd be surprised if you could get the 19"s with the pano roof
I like my toys.....
The Golf R is getting a real sunroof and not the Pano, the motor show cars have both the 19" alloys and the sunroof so I can only assume its possible.

I think the GTi is a fine package and thats why I ordered it, but I guess owning a Golf R32 too as something to do with not going for the new Golf R

Yeah true monkey hanger. Let's look at the GTI's promised 18% more efficient.

Claimed 44MPG on DSG turned into 28MPG in the real world.

So the Golf R claimed at 39 is going to be more like 20 if you're lucky. :P
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

According to the price list, it is a panoramic and not just a sunroof. It's in the same option line as the standard panoramic.

On the plus side, it can be chosen in conjunction with the 19" for the R.

But this is VW price list so I could be completely wrong

Still really tempted to change from a GTD to a GTI. I just know my bottom line will constantly be on fuel.

Logged into my old VW desktop today, and the Golf R can be ordered this week. Wonder if this will be a 12 month wait...

FYI anyway:

Fastest accelerating production Golf yet is real firecracker

New Golf R opens for ordering on 5 November VW1319-13
VW1319-13

The new Golf R opens for ordering this week, adding real fireworks to the range. Keep an eye on Desktop for when it will appear on our vehicle ordering system.

The hottest of hatchbacks is the fastest-accelerating Golf yet, and comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 300PS and 380Nm of torque.

The power is transferred to the road via the latest 4MOTION four-wheel drive system which enables the R to accelerate from standstill to 62mph in just 5.3 seconds (compared with 5.7 seconds for the previous model), or 4.9 seconds when fitted with the optional six-speed DSG gearbox. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

The new Golf R isn’t just faster, either; with officially verified fuel consumption of 39.8 pg on the combined cycle (40.9mpg for the DSG version), and CO2 emissions as low as 159 g/km it is up to 18 per cent more efficient than its predecessor.

The volkswagen.co.uk configurator for the model is due to be completed on 2 January. In the meantime, the Golf R features on the site’s ‘Coming soon’ page.
