Ed35 or mk7
« on: 03 November 2013, 17:42 »
Hey all considering a reappearance on here

Ok, sold a mk6gti beginning of the year, I used for a week an ed35 with ACC and looooved it back then, was considering getting one now but price is only 4-5k off mk 7 gti, now the problem is (and don't shoot me mk7ers) but the mk 7 isn't doing it for me ...  :embarrassed: the interior seems to have lost something and the looks aren't / haven't grown on me either...... From memory the ed35 seemed more gruff... I Maybe wrong....anyone think I'm mad wanting an ed35 over the mk7 ? Talk some sense into me pls.....

Cheers
Potts

I know were your coming from im waiting for the mk7 GTI to grow on me but I dont know if it ever will theres too many boy racer glowing lights strips, that line in the lights and badge features for me. Its a personal view most seem to like these.. The R mk7 apart from the exhaust interests me more but it using the EA888 engine scares me...

The ed35 is a car I regret not waiting for especially after the timing chain tensioner issues that can effect EA888 engines.

I suspect I will get a mk7 GTD as the next work hack, but if I was in the market for another fast Golf I would be looking at either a MK6 R or ED35 DSG and stage 2 mods.

if you put it down to out and out driving experience Mk7 GTI all day long over the Ed35, chassis and steering feedback on this car makes it dance in the way that the Mk6 cannot live with over a twisty country road in terms of speed you can carry and confidence and blew me away, it may not have the tuning potential of a K04 but for me didn't need it

other subjective considerations do come into play and i have to say i detest the Austins and you could argue at present it doesn't feel special like a Ed30/Pirelli/Ed35 in terms of exclusivity

when i saw the R i knew the fate of the 35 and this is a car i said was a keeper and i love the 35

This seems very fair Wigit. I know exactly where you are coming from and 100% agree with what you have said.

Have you test driven a mk7 yet?  Lookswise I'd say ed35 any day of the week but drivewise you would need to compare the two, or at least test drive a mk7.   Apart from the mk7 R which has much more about it, aesthetically the mk7 gti/gtd has yet to grow on me and lacks wow factor.  That said, for me the drive is more important than the looks, so when the time comes I'll be happy to move to a mk7 (R)

I'm really pleased with my Ed35 as the spec is high, DSG, heated leather, RNS510, parking sensors, rear camera, 19s, privacy glass, metallic paint, DRLs xenon...

It is a great all round car, very quick and with 5 doors and a decent boot family compatible.

I specced a mk7 in the vw Configurator and came out over £35K with a similar spec...

Gti7me, don't get me wrong, I hate being part of the people that criticise a car that I haven't driven, just the ed35 seemed to sound so much more like I wanted my standard 6 too and the ACC gave me the balance I wanted suspension wise.... I loved my 6s interior and the way the dash pods angle out wards etc and being honest the looks of the ed35 give me more phoah.... So paying the extra 4-5k may not be worth it for me, the re-sale probably will be better on the ed35 too... That's a guess btw lol.... Mk7 R isn't an option for me tbh, and no matter how good the 7 is I just can't seem to shake the 6ed35 out of my head
Think I'm answering this myself
Cheers potts

Btw, am I remembering this correctly in that the ed35 sounded more fruity/throaty ?

Hi all, I had a 7 ordered & had my test drive in a manual 5 door, I drive dsg gti 6 it still feels great to look at & drive, Well to say I was disappointed with the 7 it just felt big & to grown up I think plus the money they wanted 34k same spec as mine so I cancelled my order & il keep the 6 another year or two.  cheers neil
