Mpg
« on: 02 November 2013, 22:55 »
Just spent the day driving from st tropez to Calais. 740 miles, all solo (apart from 2 small kids in the back)

Got 440 miles from a tank of 98.

Not too bad, but weirdly the avg mpg dipped down from 39.5 to
38.1. Even though I kept the acc on at 75mph

3dr Manual in Pure White with PP, Dynaudio, Nav and Keyless. Oh and a service pack.

Strong headwinds perhaps?

I'm getting 36.7mpg but its brand new and I've got the climate control on most of the time to stop windows steaming up. Not too bad considering.

Seriously, how are you getting such high MPG? I'm getting 300 miles out a tank and lucky if I ever see over 30MPG...
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

Yeah that tankful was pure economy drive, more to relieve boredom than anything else

Eco mode
Heated mirrors etc off
19.5 degrees
No air con
75 mph on acc.
98 octane

But to be fair normally get about 30, even with "the hammer down"

I got 37mpg on a 400 mile motorway trip down to Cornwall cruising at 80ish. That was a brim to brim calculation, and the MFD average read within 1mpg of that.

37mpg this morning on a 97 mile trip, mostly A roads and Motorway. Car set to normal with all electrics on as required.
Traffic was bad, but had a couple of blasts where I could. The DSG box is growing on me now...

Still only  450 miles on the clock, so I'm not expecting anywhere near 45 yet (if ever!).

Electrics should not make a measurable difference to mpg, modern a/c systems (which only power the compressor as required) are much better than they used to be (the a/c on my 1998 Integra Type-R made a noticeable difference to the performance - almost like running on 95 RON instead of 98 RON)...
