Gutted !
« on: 01 November 2013, 20:25 »
Hello people ,

I have just taken my new ( to me ) 06 golf gti out for a spin .  I put my foot down and went thru the gears and it went well and quick but then when I hit 5 th gear it just died and there was nothing there .  I slowed down and carried on slower and it was fine .  Next time I put my foot down it went to 5th awesome and then died again , I free wheeled and then it came back.

I have searched and read and most point to the coil pack . Does this sound like a problem anyone else has had ?  It seems to drive steady fine but nail it and hit 5th and it misses.

I am a little gutted that I have this problem on the first day on the road.

Any help appreciated

Yeah I I am gonna call my local vw dealer in the morning .  I have a sticker under the boot mat tho so I think they have already been done but worth a call .
I hope it's coil packs and I don't have an ongoing problem like I am reading on here a lot .

Is it DSG or manual?  Is it only 5th? and is it always within a set rev range? or is it present throughout the gears to a lesser extent at a set rev range?

Hi guys just giving an update on my problem .  The car had already had coil packs replaced under the recall in 2011 but I have just had it fully serviced , plugs and new coil packs , took it for a blaze tonight and nailed it through to 5 th and boom ! Died , no throttle response at all .  Free wheeled for 10 seconds and it came back .  When it did it again in 6 th I dropped into 5 th and nothing , free wheel for a few seconds and it comes back .
It drives spot on steady but once foot hits the floor it doesn't like it .  My mechanic also checked the cam follower and said all is ok .  I am thinking sensor of some kind but this problem seems to be happening a hell of a lot so surely someone has experienced and solved this problem ,

Cheers

It's manual aswell .  Seems to be at high revs and not every time but most times I drive it hard

Get it scanned if not already done so.
My guess is you have an issue with your throttle body's sensor.

Came up with code p2293 which is fuel pressure regulator 2 performance .  I am going to try cam follower and thrust sensor and if that fails I will try low pressure fuel pump and then hpfp .  Hopefully this cheaper attempt will work

May be camshaft worn and not just follower. Worth a look while pump and follower are out

Would it be obvious to see if the camshaft was also worn? You would think if the follower was ok the camshaft should be unless the previous owner has fitted a new follower onto a bad shaft .
