Help anyone ?? MOT on saturday (EDITED)
« on: 22 August 2005, 08:15 »
right have replaced just about every bush bearing and replaced barrel in to new moulded part  155905851 vag code contains upper bearing so to confirm lower bush/spring upper bush which sits inside the bearing in part no. 155905851 and to be honest yeah it is much better but to me dont feel that much different to before and it failed before, still a very small amount of play but think it is more to do with the way the golf steering set up works. the only real supports for the steering column shaft are at the top of the column and at the bottom of the column nothing in the middle i didnt feel the play was that bad in the first place ok compared to my mk4 yeah you could feel a little give but you really had to tug at the wheel am i missing something here!!!...

Arrrgh...

nearly got the all clear.... headlamp aim N/S high, windscreen needs replacing got one sorted... Now this has me baffled excessive movement in steering column, checked the shear bolts all tight... there is a small amount of play on the shaft itself does anyone know if there are any bushes or bearings in the around the shaft itself cant find anything in the haynes manual!! any help appreciated!!

think theres just a plastic/polyeurthene bush, easy enough to change when youve slid the whole lot out....

so does the bush fit at the top of the shaft near behind the indicator stalks because thats where the movement appears to be!!!

this end of the shaft.

any play you have will be int he support ring, its been a while since i had one to bits, im pretty sure theres a bush in there that wears out causing the play....
