Running hot!
« on: 27 October 2013, 09:59 »
So driving my GTI today on the mway responsibly and it got up to 107 degrees!!

Is this normal?

Personally pre new engine it never went higher than 104 when getting on it, but 107 just seams v high even to point I sat at 60 to let it cool down.

We talking about the Oil temps?

Were you sat behind another car / van or did you have open road infront of you?

I dont think mine as ever gone that high. As i always have temps on my MFD, cant stand to look at the MPG

Yeah oil!

Open road just seems high, or is this due to the new engine embedding still.

It does seem by research I did in the past that the original oil and the engine when new ran hot. After its first service they run cooler. Just panic if you see it at 125 as the oil will start breaking down then. Also woeth checking the oil level as its not unknown to ship them with minimum quantitys of oil to reduce weight.

Oil check was done before journey yesterday. It has hit a 1000 now so going to do oil change so thus may help.

At least I know I've got some headway before I need to panic, as you say must just be new engine!

Oh and Jimmy, which VW garage did you get your tensioner done at, leeds?

Just want the info, because if mine does go i want to get the same deal as you as i know you said every dealer is different and i could use your case as a example. PS - whats was the final payment they asked for?

Thanks
