Hi I have just purchased a mk2 golf 8v GTi for less than a £1000.00 its in a good condition other then the fact that when I received the car today I noticed that the car was revving at 3500-4000rpm on cold startup and wouldn't move until a good 5 - 10 minutes. Whilst driving the car it was it was idling at 950rpm and then all of a sudden it would jump back up to 3500rpm........ would anyone know what thats about???
Also noticed that the car is over heating a little.....
Will be uploading some pics but over the next 1 - 2 months the car will be transformed back to its original factory look.

Check the 2 white wires behind throttle body. Mine were brittle and had been crimped back on bit like every other wire in the engine bay. Also pull plug off the blue temp sensor on the plastic flange on front if the head. Should notice a change in engine note. Also had broken wires here and it idled high and drove crap due to the ignition timing being pulled right back.
